Congratulations to our amazing CPS swimmers who competed at the PSSA District Swimming Carnival on Tuesday this week! Mrs Ryan was very excited to report how well everyone swam and how many personal best times were recorded. Special congratulations to Jake Roberts, who was named Senior Boy Champion and to our Senior Girls relay team of Imogen Chambers, Jada Buchan, Hannah McKay and Lucy Scammell, who broke a 16 year old record in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay! The 17 CPS students selected in the District team will now compete at the Western Regional Carnival in Dubbo on Friday 10th March. Good luck to all students involved! This week Mrs Eldridge, Mrs Jones and I attended a two-day induction course in Sydney focusing on an initiative called “Early Action for Success”. This whole school project puts the spotlight on delivering high quality, explicit teaching in literacy and numeracy with an emphasis on the early years of Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two. Cowra PS is fortunate to be involved in Phase 2 of this program, which will continue until 2020. During the two days, we heard many wonderful success stories from different schools, from all over NSW, who were involved in Phase 1, and are very excited for our students and teachers to be participating in this program. On Wednesday after school, all staff continued their participation in a Professional Learning program called “Aboriginal Pedagogies – 8 Ways of Learning”, which focuses on developing a deeper cultural understanding and linking the quality teaching outcomes with Aboriginal ways of learning. I would like to thank Mr Dean Murray – Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, and Mr Albert Murray; Stage 2 Assistant Principal, for their work in delivering this important program to our teaching staff. Staff will complete the final module in this training package later in the term. Over the past two weeks, you may have noticed some tree maintenance being carried out in the Infants playground. Following a tree assessment by an arborist, the recommendation was made to have these trees removed as they posed a safety risk to students and staff. Several other trees have also been identified as high-risk and these will be removed as soon as possible. We are currently investigating alternative shade arrangements. Tonight the P&C will be holding a special Fete Meeting at the school, starting at 6:00pm. All parents are welcome to attend. Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

District Swimming What a wonderful day CPS students had in the pool at the District Carnival on Tuesday! Perfect weather conditions saw many of our team excel themselves, particularly our Senior Girls Relay team who set a new DISTRICT RECORD! Well done, Jada, Lucy, Imogen and Hannah. Congratulations also to Jake Roberts who was crowned Senior Boys District Champion! We are awaiting the finalisation of the Cowra District team for Region from the convenor. As soon as we get confirmation, notes will go home and we will publish the team in the newsletter. Well done to all and a huge thankyou to Parents who supported our swimmers and especially to Mrs Ryan and Mr Riches who assisted on the day.
