SCHOOL FETE

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of Week 6 and have now passed the half-way mark in the term! After such a hot summer, I am sure everyone has enjoyed the cooler weather this week and is looking forward to the autumn months ahead. The Infants Playground has been a hive of activity this week as many of the children in K-2 have enjoyed playing in the newly built sandpit. With just the shade sail to go, this new play area is almost at completion! Huge thanks must go to Mr McGill for overseeing the construction of the sandpit and to parents Nigel Hazell and Rob Webster who gave up their weekend to lend a hand, wheelbarrowing numerous loads of concrete. Hanson’s Concrete were also very generous in enabling the school to purchase the concrete at cost price, whilst Darren Nelligan from Nelligan’s Sand and Gravel kindly donated his time on the digger and the topsoil needed to level the area. On behalf of the students and staff, thank you all for your time and effort! On Tuesday evening a number of CPS staff attended the Cowra Speech, Language and Literacy Seminar which was held at the Cowra Civic Centre. This event focused on the importance of speech and language development and how this impacts on a child’s ability to learn to read once they get to school. The presenters, Professor Sharynne McLeod and Dr Sarah McDonagh were extremely knowledgeable and shared their research and experience in working with children and educators from all over the world. The teachers who attended thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and took away lots of new ideas to implement in their classrooms. Thank you to Mr Andrew Casey from St Raphael’s for organising the event for the entire Cowra community. Over the next few weeks many of our students will be out and about at various sporting and cultural activities. Excursions have been organised to view the Archibald exhibition at the Cowra Art Gallery, a Rugby League clinic for our Year 1 students, a visit to our school by NRL legend Nathan Hindmarsh, Riding for the Disabled, Western Region Swimming Carnival in Dubbo, Cowra High transition visits and our Girls and Boys Dance groups have begun rehearsing under the expert guidance of Miss Hayley Barker and Mrs Allison Buckley. Thank you to the teachers for their efforts in planning and organising such a wide range of ‘extra’ activities for our students. Please ensure you return all permission notes and keep up to date with what’s happening via the weekly Newsletter, school website and the Cowra Public School Facebook page.

Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

My time at Western Region Band Camp By Zander De -Wet Hello students of Cowra Public School. Last week I went to Lake Burrendong to participate in the Western region band camp. I know what you are all thinking “we are always rehearsing”. Well we have tutorials and rehearse but we also have activities like grass skiing, archery, slip’n’slide or play in the pool. The aim of the camp is to make new friends, learn to play your instrument better, and to have fun. P.S. it was great.
