SCHOOL FETE

Over the past few weeks, the teaching staff have been very busy formulating Learning Support Plans (LSP’s) and Personalised Learning Pathways (PLP’s) with individual students and their parents. LSP’s and PLP’s are used to document the specific learning support needs and adjustments for those students who may require extra assistance in some areas of their schooling. LSP’s and PLP’s are written with input from the parents, the teacher and the student and are an important link between home and school. At Cowra PS we are working hard to develop and maintain strong partnerships with all our families and sincerely thank the parents who have already come in for meetings this term. On Wednesday our Year One students were treated to a special Rugby League Clinic with Nathan Hindmarsh (ex Parramatta, NSW and Australian rugby league representative), at River Park. The students had a great time learning some of the basic skills in rugby league and each student received a rugby league book and soft football at the conclusion of the session. Following this, the NRL Development Team along with Nathan, came up to the school and presented a session on “Respect” to students in Years 3-6. The presentation focused on two main values that promote a respectful and successful team – developing a sense of belonging and connectedness to your community and respecting and valuing diversity. Thank you to Mr Sam Ryan and Mr Albert Murray for coordinating these exciting visits. It has been brought to our attention that there are some safety concerns regarding the pedestrian crossing on Brisbane Street. Currently the flashing lights are partially obscured by trees and cars are travelling quickly towards the crossing and braking suddenly. Please remind your children to stay alert and take care when using all pedestrian crossings. We have contacted the council regarding these concerns. A huge thank you is extended to Mr Rob Webster and his staff at ‘Webster’s Optometrists’ for conducting vision screening assessments on all of our Kinder students this week. With 56 Kinder students enrolled, this was no easy task! The screenings have taken place over three days and parents will receive a short note indicating if their child has had any difficulties with any aspects of the test. Optometry Australia recommends a comprehensive eye examination at the beginning of school and at regular intervals (every 2-3 years) thereafter. If your child has any vision concerns, please contact Webster’s Optometrists on 63422502 to arrange an appointment. Thanks also to our wonderful G.A Mr Gerard McGill for his ongoing effort and assistance with our new Infants sandpit. Mr McGill has put in numerous hours organising and assisting the various contractors on-site and now that the shade sail is up, the Infants children are enjoying their new play space! Good luck to all CPS Swimmers who are swimming at the Western Region PSSA Swimming Carnival in Dubbo tomorrow! Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

My time at Western Region Band Camp By Eliza Mulligan Two weeks ago I went to Western Region Band Camp with Zander De-Wet. It was lots of fun. I was able to meet some new people from surrounding areas. We had rehearsals everyday for 5 days. We were lucky enough to work with great tutors. We also had recreational activities including grass skiing, pool games, a giant slip “n slide and archery. I would like to thank Mrs Wright for teaching the band and for making this possible. I would also recommend band members try it out next year.

Dear Parents of Cowra Public School Your photo day is: Wednesday 15th March This year you will not receive an order envelope. All images will be uploaded to our online site for preview & purchase, approx. 2 weeks after photo day. Not only can you view your child’s photo before placing an order, you can also select from our range of backgrounds. Each child will receive a card with their unique shoot key. AFL Auskick is recommencing Friday 17 March. AFL Auskick has been designed to build the foundation skills for playing Australian Football, and all kids aged 10 and under are most welcome.

With Womens AFL and women’s sport generally taking off currently, it’s also a great chance for girls to get involved.
