PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Term 1, Week 8

Dear Parents

It’s On! The Cowra Public School Fete is here and tomorrow night we invite everyone to come along and enjoy what promises to be an outstanding evening of entertainment, stalls, wonderful food, games, activities, raffles, lucky dips, rides, jazzy jars, photo booths, art show, tattoos, pop a balloon and most of all, fun! The Cowra Public School P&C have worked tirelessly on the organisation of the Fete over the last two to three months and have done a tremendous amount of work ensuring a very successful night. Parents and community are expected to arrive at approximately 5.00pm. Parents please remember that we are expecting a huge number of families attending the evening and we ask that you assist in monitoring the movement of your children on the night. The Fete will have performances by several dance groups as well as martial arts displays and gymnastics, which will all be performed demonstrations in the auditorium. Stalls will be located in the primary quad whilst several activities will be operating in the infants quad. Rides will be found on the grassed area in the infants while the food stalls will be located under the cola in the primary area. I would like to sincerely thank the businesses of Cowra who have shown wonderful support to our Fete in providing merchandise and donations to be offered as prizes on the night. There are going to be some huge prize draws including a 3 way power fridge which is suitable for home, 4WD or camping, a promotional NSW cricket bats, beauty packs, numerous gift vouchers, electrical and handyman tools, clothing, jazzy jars, a wine fridge, a cricket esky, and literally hundreds more. We have truly been overwhelmed by the level of support. Like any event the Fete is only possible due to the work of individuals who put their hands up to organise the night. I would like to recognise the Fete Committee for their efforts and thank them on behalf of the Cowra Public School staff and wider community for

NSW Department of Education and Communities providing this wonderful opportunity to the children and community of our school. Elsewhere in the school this week the children have been working hard in all subject areas and have been assisting in the completion of art and literacy tasks. The children were commended again by the local community for the conduct they show when representing the school as seen on Friday during the Year 5/6 Walkathon and pool activities. These children displayed outstanding manners at all times, promoting our high standards of expectation to the community. I would like to mention for the safety of all students and parents who use the Busby Lane exit from the school to please take care in crossing the road and walking on the road area. Parents please be aware you should be holding your child’s hand if they are under 10 when crossing the road and please ensure that you do not let your children run in front or lag behind you in the parking area. No parent or the school wants an injury to any child in this area and ensuring the safety of our children is a joint effort. Tomorrow the school will also be involved in a Hockey Gala Day at River Park. Stage 2 and 3 children who have returned their notes will enjoy a fun day of hockey prior to the Cowra hockey season. They will be walking with Mrs Duncan to the event and will return prior to the end of the school day. Mouthguards are required and if your child needs one, can be purchased from the school for $5. Over the next week Cowra Public School, like every school in NSW, is going into overload with PSSA sport due to the representative trials. Starting Monday, 23 March (next Monday), boys wishing to trial for the senior Western Rugby Union team will trial in Cowra at the Rugby fields starting at 9am. Later in the day (Monday, 23), boys wishing to trial for the under 11’s and Open Rugby League teams have the opportunity to gain selection in the Cowra District team

by attending an afternoon training session at River Park between 4 and 5pm which will be run by Mr Steve Kilby. Parents simply need to take their boys along to the afternoon for this event. Any child wishing to attend must have a mouthguard as it is a standard requirement of all contact sports. If you would like your son involved in either day please let the school know asap. On top of these trial dates the State Swimming Championships are being held in Sydney on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Cowra Public School will have six swimmers representing the school over the two days with Isabella Scammell and Anja Gower competing in individual events, whilst our pocket rockets Junior Girls’ team of Lucy Scammell, Hannah McKay, Jada Buchan and Eliza Mulligan will be competing in the relay event. We congratulate and wish the girls every success at the event. See you tomorrow night. Brad Tom

WHAT IS THE P&C?

P&C Annual General Meeting

P&C stands for Parents and Citizens, and Cowra Public School’s P&C Association meets once a month on Thursday evenings. The objective of the P&C is to provide parents, carers and concerned citizens an opportunity to discuss aspects of their child’s education with the school’s Principal and other staff.

Wednesday, 1 April 2015

P&C’s are often seen by the wider community primarily as fund raising committees. Whilst there are many activities that the P&C engage in to raise funds for extras in the schools, our primary focus is providing parents with an avenue to constructively discuss any aspects of their child’s schooling with school staff.

6.00pm in the school staffroom

The P&C usually meet on the third Thursday of each month. The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 1 April at 6.00 pm in the school staff room.

Everyone is welcome to attend

Would love to see some new Kindergarten parents at the Annual General Meeting!!!
