Welcome to Week 8! Congratulations to all our Western Region swimmers who completed at the PSSA Swimming Carnival in Dubbo last Friday. Miss Dunk was so impressed with the excellent behaviour and sportsmanship shown by all who attended. Our relay teams swam out of their skin, with all teams recording up to 7 seconds off their times from the District carnival – what a super effort! A big thank you also to the CPS parents who assisted with transport on the day. This week our Boys Cricket Team competed against Mulyan PS in the PSSA Knockout. The game was played in great spirits and both sides showed excellent sportsmanship. The final result saw Cowra Public come out on top and the boys will now progress to the next round. Congratulations to Cooper Pullen who was named Player of the Match! Thank you to the parents who came along to watch and to Mr Garlick for coaching the team! On Tuesday we held an emergency evacuation drill. Each class assembled quickly at the evacuation point in the playground and all students were quiet and respectful during the drill. Emergency evacuation drills are important to practice so that students, staff and visitors will know exactly what to do in the case of an actual emergency and we can ensure that our evacuation procedures are efficient and effective. Well done to all involved! Congratulations to our Harmony Day choir who performed at the Neighbourhood Centre on Wednesday. A large crowd comprised of community members, parents, Elders, and even Mayor Bill West, listened to our students sing two beautiful songs. Their performance and their behaviour were absolutely outstanding and they were a credit to themselves, their families and our school. This weekend is the highly anticipated “Festival of International Understanding” and we are very excited to be taking part in the street parade on Saturday afternoon. Mrs Cobcroft has done an amazing job organising the Nepalese costumes and all children participating in the march are to meet at the Civic Centre carpark at 2:30pm. If you haven’t checked out our window display, please take a look in the Kendal Street Newsagency (next to the Hot Bake) at our school entry. A big thank you to Mrs Ryan and the Stage 3 teachers for putting our display together. Just a reminder our whole school assembly is on tomorrow starting at 11:30am in the Hall. We have a special guest speaker coming along to talk to the Infants and Primary groups about what school is like in Nepal and we are all looking forward to seeing her dressed in traditional Nepalese costume. Parents are welcome to join us as our guest will be speaking to the children straight after assembly. We thank Kylie Wood for organising this special event and look forward to seeing everyone there! Have a great week…. Jenny Lewis Principal

CPS Wellbeing Wrap Week 8 Welcome everyone to CPS Wellbeing Wrap for week 8.  Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre Congratulations to Miss Causton, Mrs Craig and Garru KC for their fantastic performance over at CINC last Friday morning. Your performance of “The Gum Tree Family” song was something very special and warmed the hearts of all that were in attendance. The Kindergarten kids certainly enjoyed performing for the many staff, family and community members and the morning tea provided by CINC staff was exceptionally well received.

Do you enjoy Maths? Do you LOVE a challenge?

Our next performance over at CINC will be early next term as the remaining Fridays this term are busy with Good Friday, Hockey Gala Day and the CPS Colour Run. This Wednesday we had nine members of our school choir invited to perform for CINC Harmony Day. The children sang two beautiful Wiradjuri songs “Gulambali” and “Wirrinya” and then mingled with members of the Cowra community for a light luncheon. All members of this group should be extremely pleased of the way they sang and represented themselves, families and CPS with pride.  Boys Mentoring Group Our “Boys Group” have completed the painting of the PBL Acknowledgement Stars and are now being hung on the back wall of the auditorium. The PBL team are currently in the process of purchasing stickers and as soon as they arrive, we will begin our new acknowledgement system.  Reminders Just a reminder to all parents and carers that if your child is away from school then a note or phone call explaining their absence is required. Thank you! If you are experiencing any problems or would like to chat about anything that may be impacting your child’s wellbeing then please give me a call on 63422400 Cheers Albert Murray Assistant Principal Wellbeing

If you answered YES then MATHS CLUB is for you! Starting next week students in Years 3-6 are invited to join the CPS Maths Club run by Mr Vogel every Thursday at lunch time in the STEM room. In Maths Club students will explore tricky problem solving games and activities to get them ready to join and compete in the Australasian “MATHS OLYMPIAD” competition later in the year! All you need to bring is your lunch and be ready to make your brain sweat! Enquiries to Mr Vogel 

~~~NIT BLITZ~~~ There has been a recurring problem with head lice within the school. We appreciate that it is a very difficult problem to deal with and it becomes extremely expensive for all concerned if the problem is not treated quickly.
Cliff Dykes Photography SHOOT KEYS were sent home today Photos will be available to purchase online from
Thursday 22 March until 9 April
Please check your child’s hair. If they have head lice, the treatment shampoo can be purchased from the Chemist or supermarket, ordinary shampoo will not solve the problem. Remember to wash all linen in hot water, and brushes and combs should be washed in the medicated shampoo. Hair should be treated again 10 days after first treatment. According to school policy, your child should not return to school until treated and ALL eggs have been removed from the hair. Thank you for your co-operation
Garru KC visited the Neighborhood centre and performed a song called 'The Gumtree Family'. Garru were also invited to cut the cake with Uncle Harry, which recognised that yesterday was the ‘National Closing the Gap’ Day! Our kindergarten students enjoyed a delicious morning tea and also were able to share their writing with members of the community!
SCHOOL BANKING Last Thursday, The Commonwealth Bank visited our Infants students, informing them of the benefits of savings with a school banking bank account. The easiest and quickest way to start your child saving with a school banking account is visit our local Commonwealth Bank branch located in Kendal Street, Cowra. Every Thursday you can send in your school banking to be processed at school. The classroom teacher will collect the bank books in the morning .Each time your child banks a token reward is recorded electronically. Once your child has accumulated enough banks, Mrs Taylor will issue a reward slip for you to choose a special prize!! The Cowra Public School receives a commission from The Commonwealth Bank each term calculated on the school banking total received.
Just a friendly reminder that there will be no banking Thursday 29th March 2018.
BUDYABUDYA 2/3H COOK UP A STORM Last Thursday Budyabudya cooked up a Nepalese Feast as a part of our Country Study of Nepal for the Festival of Understanding. We cooked chicken sekuwa, naan bread and strawberry lassi. It all tasted very nice.
Harmony Day At CINC
BOYS PSSA CRICKET COWRA PUBLIC SCHOOL V’s MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL
Cowra Public School played their first cricket match of the Western PSSA knockout against Mulyan. Captain Alex McFarland won the toss and sent Mulyan into bat; this proved a great idea as the CPS bowlers restricted Mulyan to 2-69 off their 27 overs. All bowlers bowled well and fielders supported them brilliantly. It was CPS turn to bat, we lost an early wicket to be 1-2, and then Cooper Pullen and Brody Fiene put on a match winning partnership to get us all but 4 runs away from victory. Brody Fiene and Henry Fagan hit the winning runs with A-Jai McKewon hitting some late boundaries for fun. The game was played in great spirit and CPS started their season with a strong victory against their local rivals.
Reminder- Tell Them From Me Survey Students from Year 4 to 6 will be participating in the Tell Them From Me student satisfaction surveys next week during library lessons. All student responses are confidential and the surveys are a very important tool in identifying areas of concern for students. I encourage all students to participate. A note with information about the surveys and a removal of consent form was attached to last week's newsletter. You only need to return this note if you do not wish for your child to participate. HEADSETS There are many occasions when students are using technology within our school, either on IPads or laptops where the experience is enhanced by wearing headphones. The school currently provides headsets to be shared by students, however, we would like to invite and encourage students to bring their own headphones to school. This will allow students to wear something that is fitted for them, making it more comfortable, as well as ensuring that they are the only ones to use that headset. The headsets can either be kept in student’s school bags to be taken home or stored in the classroom and left at school. If you would like to provide a set of headphones for your child, please clearly mark their name on the headsets and provide a clear plastic bag to store the headphones in.
