Cowra Public School NEWS RELIEVING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents On Saturday approximately ninety Cowra Public School students participated in the Festival of International Understanding Parade. The school received many compliments, on not just the number of students who participated, but on how stunning they looked in their costumes and how well they conducted themselves throughout the parade. Our students could not have looked so spectacular without a lot of work leading up to the Festival. A particular thanks to Mrs Cobcroft, our design specialist, and to all the teachers, support staff and parents who worked tirelessly to provide costumes for the students. Next Tuesday, Tyahla Munro and her family will be attending the Nanga Mai Awards to be held at the FOR YOUR DIARY MARCH 17

NSW Department of Education and Communities Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. The NSW Schools Nanga Mai Awards celebrate Aboriginal excellence in NSW Public Schools. Tyahla has been selected to receive an award in the category ‘Outstanding Achievement in Public Speaking’. Our congratulations to Tyahla, a very worthy recipient of this prestigious award. Our congratulations also go to Amelia Clements. Amelia was the winner of the ‘Bringing Healthy Back’ Logo competition. Amelia’s design will now be showcased as the official Cowra logo. This is a very impressive achievement and there appears to be a great career out there for her. On Tuesday the students of Cowra Public came with their most stylish hairdos. There was a great variety of interesting styles and creations. The money raised on the day amounted to $356 and was forwarded to Bianca Riggio as part of her fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation. Bianca was able to be at our assembly not only to present our Aussie of the Month Awards but also to receive our contribution. The Aussie of the Month awards are always a great challenge for the staff. We have many students who present with the qualities that entitle them to the title of Aussie of the Month. Our congratulations to Tatianna Hazel (Primary) and Amelia McCulloch (Infants) who, in a very competitive field, are the March Aussies of the Month.

The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey I am delighted that this term our school, like many others in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 14 March and 8 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form and a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the consent form to school by Monday 21st March. The FAQs and copies of the consent form, including translated consent forms, are available from the website above. Regards Kerry Cole Relieving Principal

P&C WHAT IS THE P&C?
P&C Meeting
P&C stands for Parents and Citizens, and Cowra Public School’s P&C Association meets once a month on Thursday evenings. The objective of the P&C is to provide parents, carers and concerned citizens an opportunity to discuss aspects of their child’s education with the school’s Principal and other staff.
Tonight
P&C’s are often seen by the wider community primarily as fund raising committees. Whilst there are many activities that the P&C engage in to raise funds for extras in the schools, our primary focus is providing parents with an avenue to constructively discuss any aspects of their child’s schooling with school staff.
6.00pm in the school staffroom Everyone is welcome to attend
The P&C usually meet on the third Thursday of each month, and the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 17 March 2016 at 6.00 pm in the school staff room.
Would love to see some new Kindergarten parents at the meeting!!!
