MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 2 ~ Week 1

www. mulyan-p.schools@det.new.edu.au

Dear Parents, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that everyone had a very relaxing and enjoyable break and are ready for a very busy and exciting term. In particular the first 4-5 weeks look like being jam packed with events on just about every day. Set out with this newsletter are most of the important events that we have already scheduled in. Please keep this handy as I am sure that at some stage all our students are involved in 1 or more of these activities.

ANZAC Day March

Thank you to all those boys and girls who came along to join with our contingent in the ANZAC Day Commemoration March. It was wonderful to see approximately 40-50 students from all grades join with us on this most important of Australian Days. Ours students were all dressed in their school uniform and showed great respect during all 3 stages of the commemoration; the wreath laying, the march and the commemoration ceremony. Thank you also to the mums and dads who ensured that our school was represented with such good numbers. It is greatly appreciated.

Peer Support Training

Today and tomorrow all of our Year 6 students are attending Peer Support training. This training is being done at the Cowra Services Club and will be led by Mrs Statham, Mrs Baratto, Mr Ryan and Mrs Wilson. The themes for this year’s Peer Support is “Optimism”. Over the next couple of weeks, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be placed in to 20 equal sized groups of mixed age students. Year 6 students will then be allocated to lead these groups to discuss and work with the students on optimism and how to go about achieving the best possible sense of optimism that they can. Lessons will be held each Friday morning for 30 minutes beginning in Week 4 of this term. Each group will also be supervised by a teacher. This program proved very successful when we ran it last year and we are looking for a similar outcome this year.

School Photos

This year our school photos will be taken on Monday, 9th May. Students are to be in full winter uniform. This year you will not receive an order envelope. All images will be uploaded to Cliff Dykes Photography online site for preview and purchase, approx. 2

NAPLAN

During Week 3 all students in Years 3 and 5 will be undertaking the NAPLAN Assessments. These assessments are based on what the children have been learning and what they know. There is really no way to study for these assessments and so we encourage our students to look upon theses as just a normal part of our school routine. Results will be sent home later in Term 3. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Western Region Representation

On the last day of Term 1 several of our students took part in the Western Region Soccer trails for both boys and girls. From these trials the following students were selected to be part of the Western Region team: Mackenzie Crook, Telika Burns Clayton Hayes.
