MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 2 ~ Week 8

www. mulyan-p.schools@det.new.edu.au

Dear Parents, I hoped that everyone enjoyed the long weekend and were able to catch up on some of those things that might have needed to be done. We now have only 3 weeks until the end of term and there is still a lot to do. Sports Congratulations to the boys’ Open Rugby League team who had a great win against Lithgow Public School last Friday. On a very cool day and a wet field, our boys ran out winners 36-0. They now move on to the 4th round of the Westmount Shield. Congratulations to Mr Ryan and the boys, a great job. Also Congratulations to the girl’s hockey team who played in their third round match against Parkes Public School last Friday. At full time, the score was level. At this point, extra time needed to be played and two players were dropped off for each period of extra time. In the 3rd period of extra time with only 5 players for each side on the field, we scored the winning goal. Congratulations to all the girls who will now play in the Western final. Today, 24 of our students have travelled to Geurie to take part in the Western Cross Country Carnival against the best runners from across our region. We look forward to hearing their results. Also, on Friday of this week, both our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams play in the Western Gala day being held in Orange. These are effectively the Western finals. Good luck to both our teams. A huge thank you to all the parents who assist us with transport to and from these events and also the parents who have helped us coach these sporting teams. Without their assistance, we would not be able to offer the many opportunities that we do. We are very grateful. Western Dance Festival Today, we also have 30 students travelling to Bathurst to take part in the Western Dance Festival. They will be performing with other groups from right across the Western part of NSW. I know that they will perform beautifully and be great ambassadors for our school. Thank you to Mrs Apps and Miss Barker for giving our students the opportunity to perform on the big stage.

Assembly Times

Uniform Blitz This term, we are having a uniform blitz to encourage Infant’s Assemblies: as many students as possible to wear their full school uniform. Each week, we haven been choosing children Primary Assemblies:

at random from each grade and if they have been wearing their school uniform, they are rewarded with a canteen voucher. So far, the children selected have all be wearing their uniform. Thank you to all those children who are wearing the appropriate uniform and to the parents who ensure that the children are doing this. The children all look very smart when they are in uniform. Schools Spectacular Recently, we were advised that both our choir and our dance group have been selected to participate in this year’s “Schools Spectacular”. This is Australia’s most popular annual show. Students from all areas of NSW as well as all ages, cultures and skills come together to put on a spectacular event like no other. We will have 28 students representing our school and they will join with over 5,000 other students to showcase the talent in NSW Public Schools. Students who are selected not only rehearse at school but also will spend a week in Sydney before the actual performances rehearsing with the other members of the spectacular. As this will be a major financial commitment for our students and their families, the students and teachers will be doing some fundraising leading up to this event to help with costs. Please consider supporting our students, as this is a wonderful opportunity for them. John Smith

Schools Spectacular Fundraising Mulyan Dance Group and Choir are very proud to have been selected to perform at this year’s Schools Spectacular. After a competitive selection process, we were informed that both groups have been accepted. It is an amazing opportunity that these 28 students will experience. The Schools Spectacular is on in November and involves trips to Sydney for both rehearsals and performances. It will be a costly experience for the students’ families so we are going to hold a number of fundraising events to offset the costs as well as applying for grants and donations. At each primary assembly, we will have a money bottle which we hope to fill with $2 coins. So, next time you are at one of our assemblies, please come with a pocket full of coins to help the children with their fundraising.
