ST 3 PIE DRIVE ORDERS CLOSE TUESDAY, 6 JUNE Order Form attached to Newsletter.

Dear Parents/Caregivers, This week has been a very busy one! Our students have participated in a variety of sporting events and showed great enjoyment and sportsmanship! Congratulations to all Stage 2 and 3 girls and boys who participated in the Netball Gala Day and Peachey Shield/Richardson Cup on Tuesday. I was fortunate to be able to watch our Stage 2 boys on the footy field and I have no doubt that we have some future NRL players in our midst! Similarly the girls Netball Gala Day was extremely well run with a large number of teams from Cowra, Mulyan, Canowindra, Orange and Holmwood. The girls played with great spirit and many of them have decided that they would like to continue playing in the local Cowra competition. Thank you to Mrs Cobcroft, Miss Irvine, Miss Elbourne, Mr Murray, Mr Garlick and Mr Riches for their efforts in coaching all of our teams! The Senior Girls PSSA Netball team had a wonderful match on Wednesday against Grenfell Public School, winning 24-2. Thank you to Mrs Montgomery for coaching the team and to parents; Kylie Wood, Belinda Kilby, Toni Muddle, Jo Buchan and James Buckey for assisting with transport. The girls now progress to the next round of the competition to be played in Orange on the 17th May. Today the annual School Athletics Carnival will be held. All students are expected to attend this important event and the friendly rivalry between the Houses is sure to be lots of fun! Thank you to Mrs Duncan and Mrs Ryan for their work in organising the carnival. The weather forecast is for sunny skies and all parents are welcome to come along and be part of the cheer squad! Last Thursday evening, the P&C held their 2017 Annual General Meeting. Congratulations to the new P&C Executive: President – Roberta Graham; Vice President – Raelene Beecher; Secretary - Pip Fagan and Treasurer Rob Webster. I look forward to working with them over the coming year. On behalf of the staff and students I would like to thank the outgoing executive – Nigel Hazell, Cassie Gailey and Miriam Kelly, for their years of service and dedication to Cowra Public School. Next week students in Year 3 and 5 will sit the National Assessments in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The dates are Tuesday 9th May – Language Conventions and Writing; Wednesday 10th May – Reading and Thursday 11th May – Numeracy. Mr Murray and Mr Garlick will be coordinating the supervision of our Year 3 and 5 students during the testing period. NAPLAN gives both parents and the school a ‘snapshot’ of where each child is sitting in areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Friday 12th May is allocated as a catch up day if students are absent. Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

PSSA Netball (Grenfell) - A huge thank you to parents for driving and supporting our awesome team. The team displayed great sportsmanship resulting in a fantastic win of 24-2. Well done to our girls - Jada, Keira, Hallie, Ella, Lorissa, Hunter, Lucy, Tahlee-Pearl, Natalea and Josie

Important Info Update…. Important Reminder from Cowra Bus! When your child disembarks from the bus of an afternoon, please ensure you are at the bus stop and not across the road. Your precious little person is excited to be home and give you an update. They do not understand the road rules and the speed of cars, trucks, buses and they will run across to you, without checking whether it is safe. Please help us by being at the bus stop to keep your child safe. Canteen News Due to food safety guidelines we can no longer prepare 2 minute noodles in the canteen for students who bring in packets of noodles for lunch. Noodles will need to be prepared at home and brought to school in a thermos or container. Thank you for your assistance. Lisa Willis - Canteen Manager

Library News and Term 2 PE/Library Timetable…. Have you ever lost a library book?

During this year’s book fair we are asking students and parents if they would like to purchase a book to be kept in the library for students to borrow. Any book donated to the library will have a certificate placed in the front of the book stating whom has donated this book. If you have ever lost a school library book it would be wonderful if you could consider replacing it by purchasing a book of your choice at the book fair or even making a donation towards the purchase of a book.

2017 Book Fair is coming….Week 5 Mon to Fri The 2017 Book Fair will be held in Week 5 22 May to 26 May. Books will be available for viewing the week before. Every purchase of a book earns a commission that returns $$$ to the library which we use to purchase more resources for students and items to make our library an even nicer place to be.
