ST 3 PIE DRIVE ORDERS CLOSE TUESDAY, 6 JUNE

This week students in Years 3 and 5 sat the National Assessments in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). These assessments give both parents and the school a ‘snapshot’ of where each child is sitting in areas of Literacy and Numeracy and is a valuable diagnostic tool for teachers. Congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students who participated this week – they all handled it with confidence and maturity! Results from NAPLAN will not be made available until September. This evening our Stage 2 and 3 teachers will be holding Parent/Teacher Interviews. Times for individual interviews have been sent home with students earlier this week. Thank you to those parents who are planning on attending this evening. Building strong partnerships between home and school is vitally important and we value the opportunity to speak with all parents about their children’s learning. If you require additional time to speak with your child’s teacher, beyond that allocated in the interview, please contact the school to arrange an appointment. Congratulations to all students who competed in the CPS Athletics Carnival last Thursday. It was a beautiful day for it, with lots of parents in attendance and it was great to see everyone having a go and cheering on their classmates. Special congratulations to Brody Fiene who smashed the Junior Boys Discus record of 19.94m previously set in 2001 by C. Strange. Brody’s new record now stands at a massive 26.29m – well done Brody! The High Jump events are being run at school during lunchtimes and when these are completed, we will be able to announce the winning house and the CPS District Athletics team. Thank you to Mrs Ryan and Mrs Duncan for their excellent organization of the day! Last Thursday we received a wonderful donation from Mr Bruce Nelson. Bruce used to own an upholstery business in Cowra and with some of his leftover materials, kindly made enough vinyl table covers to be used in all our Kindergarten and Year One classrooms during art lessons. Bruce has five daughters, four of whom are now teachers, so knew first-hand that these would be very gratefully received! Thank you Bruce – your generosity is very much appreciated! Last week all students had the opportunity to purchase a gift for their mum for Mother’s Day through the P&C Mother’s Day stall. A huge thank you to Sarah Casey and her band of P&C helpers who organized this event – I’m sure all our mums will enjoy receiving a special gift picked out for them by their child. I hope all our mums, aunties, nans and grandmas CANTEEN NEWS have a very Happy Mother’s Due to food safety guidelines we can no Day this Sunday. longer prepare 2 minute noodles in the can-

teen for students who bring in packets of noodles for lunch. Noodles will need to be prepared at home and brought to school in a thermos or container. Thank you for your assistance. Lisa Willis - Canteen Manager

Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

Library News and What’s on at lunch times….. Have you ever lost a library book?

During this year’s book fair we are asking students and parents if they would like to purchase a book to be kept in the library for students to borrow. Any book donated to the library will have a certificate placed in the front of the book stating whom has donated this book. If you have ever lost a school library book it would be wonderful if you could consider replacing it by purchasing a book of your choice at the book fair or even making a donation towards the purchase of a book.

2017

Book Fair is coming….Week 5 Mon to Fri The 2017 Book Fair will be held in Week 5 22 May to 26 May. Books will be available for viewing the week before. Every purchase of a book earns a commission that returns $$$ to the library which we use to purchase more resources for students and items to make our library an even nicer place to be.
