It’s hard to believe we are at the half-way point in the Term! So much has happened over the past five weeks and looking forward, there is still plenty on the calendar for Term 2! As part of our regular review of policies and procedures, this term we have been looking at our Anti-bullying Plan. The plan is a mandatory document which outlines the school’s response in developing protection, prevention, and early intervention and response strategies for instances of bullying in our school. The first draft of the CPS Anti-bullying Plan has been developed with the staff and was distributed to members of the P&C at last night’s meeting. If any parents would like a copy please contact the school and we will send one home with your child. Comments and feedback about the draft Antibullying Plan are welcomed up until 15th June, when the plan will be finalised and made available on the school’s website. Going hand in hand with the review of our Anti-bullying Plan, this week students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 were involved in the first of a series of antibullying workshops. This week we focused on the following areas; 1. What is bullying? 2. What roles do people play when bullying occurs? (bully, victim, bystander) 3. What can we do if we see someone being bullied or are being bullied ourselves? 4. How can we report bullying behaviour? With recent studies reported by the Australian Institute of Family Studies stating 1 in 4 children is bullied, I urge all parents to please take the time to talk to your child about what is being discussed at school. Cowra Public School does not tolerate any form of bullying. Over the coming weeks, students will focus on the different types of bullying including physical, verbal, emotional and cyberbullying. Stage 1 students will participate in a similar program in Term 3. If you have any concerns or questions about the workshops, please speak directly with your child’s teacher. The Cowra Eisteddfod has continued this week with many of our CPS students performing in both group and individual items. On Wednesday our amazing H12 and Q23 students took to the stage and performed an outstanding rendition of “The Dog’s Life Rap!” Their performance was so good that they were awarded FIRST PLACE in the ‘Special Needs Group’ Section! Congratulations to all students involved and to their dedicated teachers Mrs Hopkins, Ms Haskew, Ms Kelly, Mrs Craig and Mr Riches. Special thanks also to Mrs Ross for the eye-catching props! There were plenty of excited parents and friends in the audience! Good luck to Jake Roberts who this week, is representing the Western Region in the State AFL Carnival in Parkes. Jake’s selection in the team is a wonderful achievement and we look forward to hearing how the Western team fared against other teams from all over NSW. Well done Jake! Our school Cross Country will be held tomorrow Friday 26th May at Twigg Oval, starting at 11:30am. Please note the change in time and venue – all parents are most welcome to attend! Have a great week… Jenny Lewis

We really enjoyed the experience to be able to attend the “Sydney Dance Company”. Our first class was Alice’s favourite class. It was about strength and Technique!. Our second class was Oorigrifi - a robot dance! Our third dance class was Lorissa’s favourit e. I t w as contemporary and free dancing. We had such a great time! By Lorissa and Alice

Sydney Dance Company The thing I was most surprised about was my ability to dance. It was a million times better then I thought it could be! The most amazing thing of all was getting to meet some amazing dancers. Our teachers were FANTASTIC. The teachers taught us some amazing dances and I wish I could do them all day!

The trip to Sydney Dance Company was great. I had two great friends come with me. Piper and Lilly from Mulyan. My first class was about confidence in dance. My second class was about technique. My 3rd class, (my favourite class) was contemporary.

Western Region Dance Festival Cowra Public School’s Dance Group has entered the Western NSW Dance Festival which is taking place at the Entertainment Centre in Bathurst on Wednesday, 7 June 2017. Travel will be by bus. Each student will be required to pay $15.00, payable to the school office by Monday, 1 June 2017. We will depart Cowra Public School at approximately 11:00am and return at approximately 10:45pm. A further note with specific details and requirements for the day will be sent home shortly. Due to half of the dance group performing in the Cowra Eisteddfod for Band on the same day, we probably won’t be able to perform in the matinee but will be able to watch this amazing performance. We will be performing in the evening performance. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the school. It’s terrific that the students get to enjoy the many other performances from other schools in our region - as well as performing on stage themselves, which they love!. They love it and it is so much fun for them. Thank you for helping us to get your child onto the stage where they SHINE! Debbie Cobcroft Dance Coordinator

‘BLITZ ON NITS’ Following an outbreak of head lice, the school is recommending that each child be thoroughly examined and if necessary treated at home. 1. Identification: Check your child’s hair for live lice and either yellowish white eggs (live nits) or brown or black eggs (dead nits). Hatched eggs are white and flat, like grains of salt or dandruff. 2. Treatment: Consult your pharmacist about which product is best suited for your child. Re-treatment should be carried out about 7 days after the first treatment to kill any juvenile lice that may have hatched since the first treatment. 3. Elimination: Remove eggs and lice by using a fine-tooth comb and conditioner, egg remover or combing solution.
