PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

involved in this and we are confident strong results will be achieved.

Dear Parents

Yesterday our very energetic Senior band performed at the Cowra Eisteddfod. Mrs Wright was delighted with the effort, behaviour and performance of the children who really enjoyed themselves in what was their first eisteddfod. It is a true testament to the children for their ongoing commitment to practising their instruments and to their parents for their on- going patience and encouragement. The band will continue to go from strength to strength over the next few years with our developing band members starting to become involved with the senior band. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Wright for her outstanding leadership of this program.

Over the wet weekend we were reminded that Winter is finally here. With the colder weather the children are reminded to bring a jumper in their bag each day even if it is warm at home in the morning. Please ensure that you label your child’s clothing. This week the school has been focusing on semester assessment tasks to assist the teachers in reporting on the progress of the students. It has been very pleasing to witness the significant gains achieved by our students and some true standouts across the grades. On Monday we had several students representing the school at the District Cross Country at Koorawatha. The day didn’t look that inviting in the morning but by the time the children ran the sky had cleared and the races were completed without rain. Many students from Cowra Public School achieved a result in the top 6 of their age category and will now progress through to the Western Region Final being held at Wellington next Wednesday. All runners are to be commended for their efforts on the day and special mention to Ella Meeuwisse who came first with blistering speed in the 10 years girls.

Also yesterday our Rugby League team travelled to Orange to take part in the Westmont Shield against Calare Public School. Unfortunately our side lost on the day. Thanks you to everyone who transported the players across to Orange.

Also on Monday the school sent representatives to the indoor soccer competition held in Bathurst. Ms James accompanied a very enthusiastic group of students to the carnival and by all reports the skills shown by our teams impressed many.

This weekend will be a three day break with the Queen’s Birthday. No staff will be at the school on Monday so children are to stay home please.

Students have also been participating in several University of New South Wales exams this over the last few weeks with the Science exam being held on Tuesday. Many students took the opportunity to be
