Last day of Term 2
Dear Parents/Caregivers, There’s certainly been a chill in the air this week as we officially move into the winter months! Fortunately our classrooms are beautifully heated and students are dressing appropriately in their winter uniforms for the cooler temperatures. Just a reminder that on the days your child has PE or Sport, they are permitted to wear navy track pants and many students opt to wear shorts underneath as they are very active during these lessons. On all other days, full winter uniform is expected and it is wonderful to see so many of our students wearing their school uniform with pride. Congratulations to all students who participated in the District Cross Country trials last Friday and well done to those students progressing to the Regional Cross Country event in Geurie next Wednesday. It is always a tough event and is run in all weather conditions. Fingers crossed for a cool and sunny day! Congratulations also to our Primary Band who placed first in their section at the Cowra Eisteddfod on Wednesday. At Cowra Public we are very fortunate to be able to offer students the opportunity to become involved in the band and Mrs Mary-Ann Wright’s expertise in teaching so many different instruments is second to none! The band’s performance of “What a Wonderful World” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” was outstanding!
BOOK CLUB ISSUE 4
On Wednesday our CPS Dance Ensemble travelled to Bathurst to perform at the Western Dance Festival, along with students from schools across the Western region. Thank you to Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Long who accompanied the girls, Mr McGill for driving the bus and to the parents who assisted with costumes, hair and moral support! Well done to all twenty girls involved - yet another wonderful experience for our students! Following the celebrations of our school’s selection into this year’s Schools Spectacular, it was remiss of me in last week’s newsletter to acknowledge the work and efforts of Mrs Gay Hilton and the students who were part of last year’s choir. Audition tapes for the choir were submitted very early in Term 1 and last year’s choir played a pivotal role in this process. The reputation of the CPS choir is well known in our local community and to have received this acknowledgement from further afield is a tribute to all involved!
Closes Friday, 16th June

Across Stage 2 and 3 our school has continued to implement an anti-bullying program and it is wonderful to see the students engaging in discussions around this type of behavior. In the last week of term we have Police Liaison Officer Senior Constable Jane Heffernan coming to talk to the students about bullying and we will also have some student presentations. Parents are welcome to attend this session on Monday 25th June at 2pm in the Hall. Just a reminder for any parents wishing to read and provide feedback, comments or suggestions on our updated Anti-bullying Plan, copies are available from the school office. I would ask that all feedback be returned to the school by June 15th so that the Anti-bullying Plan can be finalised by the end of Term 2. I hope all families enjoy the upcoming long weekend! PRIMARY SPORTS NOTES
Players will walk to Edgell Park with Mr Vogel and Miss Gorham.
The teams will be departing from school at 10.20am.
Please return sport notes ASAP and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs Duncan at school. Western Dance Festival We started the day by winning the band section in the Cowra Eisteddfod, which was followed up by a very long bus trip (thanks Mr Mcgill). Once we finally got to Bathurst, we hopped out of the bus and froze. Luckily the heaters were on inside and everyone's toes and fingers unfroze. After we finished lunch we watched the matinee. Unfortunately there was no popcorn “sniff sniff”. It was an amazing showcase of talent and we loved every bit of it. After the matinee we went shopping at Smiggle, Inspirations and Donut King and we bought lots of things. After dinner we went back to City Hall to have a technical rehearsal. We got dressed, put our make-up on and did our hair. We were number 9 on the program and were very excited to dance.
CPS SUN SAFE POLICY Cowra Public School staff have recently updated our school Sun Safe Policy, and we are working together to ensure that our students and staff are as Sun safe as possible. With that in mind, we have decided to expand our “NO HAT NO PLAY” rule to the cooler months as well. This means that the rule is now in place every day of the school year and at every school event. Whilst children are encouraged to dress warmly and wear a school beanie when its cold, beanies are not an acceptable substitute for a bucket style school hat. Baseball style caps are also not acceptable as they provide very little sun protection and those with a rigid peak may cause injuries. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding our policy, please contact Mrs Duncan at the school.
All twenty girls had a great time performing on stage. We would like to give a huge thank you to Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Long for all their hard work getting us to Bathurst. By Eliza, Bridie, Jacquie, Niamh and Keira

Operation Art Photo Gallery Operation Art was run last week over three days. Cowra Public School was lucky enough to be the host for this year. It is an initiative run by Westmead Children’s Hospital and the Department of Education Arts unit. We were delighted to have Niki Martignago visit and provide specialised tuition to students who have a passion and talent for the visual arts.
