Cowra Public School NEWS
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Before Anything Else………. It’s on and happening! This Saturday is the Cowra P&C Fashion Parade (Women In Wool) and it will be in full swing commencing at 2.00pm. All ladies are invited to a fantastic afternoon at the Tower, which is located at the Mulligan Vineyard on the Grenfell Road. This has been and will be a wonderful event, a lot of fun and a great opportunity to pick up some amazing fashion items at heavily reduced prices. Wool will be a feature material on the day and it is sure to be an amazing spectacle with a number of staff members and parents taking to the catwalk. It’s hoped all ladies take the opportunity to leave the kids with the dads and have an afternoon out. A huge thank you to Kylie Wood for leading the charge with the organisation and of course to Carla from In Style for Women for supplying the wonderful clothing. It is all happening at Cowra Public School with a number of great events occurring in the last week. Last Friday Stage 3 visited the goldfields in Bathurst as part of their unit of work and by all reports they had a marvellous time panning and participating in multiple activities. The owners of the facility commended Cowra Public School children and staff telling them they were the best mannered and behaved group they have had. A glowing report. Well done Stage 3. This week a huge number of our dancers have been involved in the Bathurst Dance Spectacular which was held yesterday. Our dancers had a full day and very late night

girls teams expecting to play, however as it is to expected rain the event has been postponed due to ground conditions and restrictions imposed by the Orange City Council. The games will be rescheduled in the near future.
Another event that involved three students was the Western Region Cross Country which was held in Geurie. Mrs Duncan took our trio of Ella Meeuwisse, Imogen Chamber and McKay Sullivan to the start line and all runners performed well. We congratulate them on their efforts.
Next week Stage 2 are very excited about their trip to Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney. The children will be exposed to a real life treat in discovering the joys of colonial Australia right down to sleeping in a Hammock. Many staff members are also thrilled with this idea, just on a different level. In what promises to be a great experience I am sure the children will remember this excursion for many years.
This week has also seen a number of children involved in the University of New South Wales writing and spelling exams. These tests give the students the opportunity to participate in formal assessment that is on offer to all students in NSW. Results will be presented later in the year with a number of students looking for high marks. One of the biggest events for the week is the NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge that was held today at the Cowra Civic Centre. Cowra Public School was strongly represented by two teams being Mac Webster and Tyahla Munro being one team and Jake Roberts and Tahlee-Pearl Beckett being the second team. At the time of the newsletter print the result was unknown but both groups performed exceptionally well. A big thank you to Mrs Long who assisted the students in preparation for the event. Another person to thank is Mr Dean Murray who is the State organiser of the event and the driving force behind this wonderful competition. Two soccer events were scheduled for tomorrow in Orange with both the boys and

We are very excited to have several Cowra Pre Schools visiting us next week. The children will be participating in a music lesson with Mrs Oborn and experiencing life in a “Big School”. Finally I would like to acknowledge the visit by Louise Ulliana who spoke to staff and parents on Autism this week. In what was very insightful conversation Louise gave great advice and direction in assisting students who do have autism. Louise also worked with staff during her visit in what was invaluable to the teachers so a huge thank you to Louise and also Mrs Beecher who organised the visit. Enjoy the week.

Please note: MORNING TEA, LUNCH and AFTERNOON TEA is required to be packed from home on the first day for both groups—all meals on day 2 will be provided. WESTERN NSW DANCE FESTIVAL 2016 Wow! Another great day of dance performances from many primary and high schools across our western region. Yesterday the students from CPS entertained the audiences at the Bathurst Entertainment Centre with their “ABC Spots & Dots” dance to perfection, at both the matinee and evening performances. Lots of smiles and energy were evident on stage - routines and patterns performed beautifully. This is a dance festival that the students have participated in for many years and they are repeatedly memorized by the amazing talent seen on stage. To be given the opportunity to showcase our school’s talent alongside the wonderful talent from our region is truly special. A huge thank you to the thirty students who danced (and shopped!) - their efforts in preparing for the day, along with their excellent behaviour over many hours is to be commended. It was an absolute pleasure to take this wonderful group away! It is experiences like this that create special school memories. Well done, dancers. Debbie Cobcroft
If your child is in Group Two you will need to have them at school by 5.15am on Wednesday, 22 June. You will need to collect them from the school at 8.30pm on Thursday, 23 June. Students are to wear warm, comfortable clothing (jeans/long pants, shirt, jumper, warm jacket or extra jumper) on the excursion. Please ensure that any motifs on clothing are suitable. Shoes need to be sturdy as we will be doing lots of walking over the two days. All students will need to take the following items with them. In/with their overnight bag: – a sleeping bag and pillow
warm pyjamas (or a tracksuit) toothbrush, toothpaste and comb or brush soap for hand/face washing and a handtowel clean socks/underwear for day two
There are no bathing facilities at Hyde Park Barracks so the students do not need to bring a full set of toiletries. In their day pack recess, lunch and snacks for day one, including a water bottle which can be refilled. a warm jacket or jumper (if they are not wearing it)
a school bucket hat. This is most important as it will be the teachers’ way to identify our students in a crowd. If your child does not have one they can be purchased from Mr Embroidery.
Please ensure that all items are marked clearly with your child’s name. Students may take a book/pencils/notepad for use on the bus. Students may take a camera, but it is the responsibility of the child to look after it. (IPads or similar are not to be used due to size) NO ELECTRONIC GAMES OR MOBILE PHONES ARE TO BE TAKEN ON THE EXCURSION. Your child will be responsible for looking after all their belongings and must be able to carry both bags upstairs/downstairs during the excursion. Please make sure they know where to find things in their bag and that they can repack their bag and sleeping bag on Day Two.

STAGE 3 CANBERRA EXCURSION This year, students from Stage 3, have the opportunity during Term 4 to take part in a three day excursion to Canberra. This excursion is the culmination of the Stage 3 HSIE unit on Government and it is also an enjoyable social experience for all those involved. The excursion will occur: Wednesday, 23rd November to Friday, 25th November 2016. Accommodation: ACT.
will be at Camp Cottermouth, Stromlo,
The cost will be $270 per student, this amount has been subsidised by school funds and will be further reduced for those who took advantage of the pie drive. This includes all costs,
except for morning tea and lunch on the first day. The itinerary for the excursion will be sent home early in Term 4. ALL STUDENTS WISHING TO PARTICIPATE in the excursion must have paid a deposit of at least $100 by Friday, 5th August. Payments: Pay $100 deposit by Friday, 5th August Pay additional amounts at any time Payment in full must be received no later than 11th November. Don’t forget we now have a Parent Online Payment system (POP), accessed via the school’s website. (Unfortunately EFTPOS is still not available.)
A firm indication of the number of Stage 3 students participating in the excursion is vital. Please indicate on the permission note sent home whether your child will be attending and return the slip to the school by Friday, 24th June. If you indicate
that your child will be attending please be aware that we will regard this as a firm commitment and we will make bookings accordingly.
SCHOOL SPECTACULAR 2016 23-26 November We are thrilled to announce that our school was successful in securing a place in the 2016 Schools Spectacular - “Dream Big”. We are again able to select dancers for the Combined Dance. This is an excellent opportunity for all involved. It is a huge commitment with time and expenses, as we will be required to be in Sydney over a 5 day period. There will be costume, accommodation and meal costs. We will secure funding from the school and also apply for community grants and donations to subsidise the costs but most of the costs will need to be covered by the families of each dancer. It is anticipated that this will be approximately $400 per student. The cost can be paid off like a layby system. The teachers, Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Duncan will again be with the students in Sydney from the Wednesday through to the Sunday morning for rehearsals and the concerts. We invite parents to then attend the performances but your accommodation will be separate to the students. We have secured accommodation for the students and teachers at the Woolbroker at Darling Harbour. On the first night we will stay at the Great Southern Hotel, in George St, Sydney. Travel arrangements to the Schools Spectacular will be confirmed shortly. All students will need to be brought home after the Schools Spectacular with their families. The Schools Spectacular performance this year will be at Qudos Bank Arena in Homebush (previously know as ACER arena). To be performing in the same arena as many famous singers is an amazing lifelong memory your children will cherish forever. Debbie Cobcroft and Shavaughn Duncan
THANK YOU FROM H123 A huge thank you from H123 to the R.D.A. helpers and to all those who financially support the horse riding group.

A VISIT BY LUKE CARROLL As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations Luke Carroll, a well known television presenter from Play School, visited our school. Luke spoke to the students about his time on Play School and other acting roles he has had including Home and Away. Luke was also in the movie Stranger Land with Nicole Kidman that was filmed in the Central West. The students thoroughly enjoyed the morning with Luke learning all about his work within the television industry. Below are some photographs of the morning.

REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY We had three of our students participating in the Regional Cross Country which took place in Geurie yesterday. The day was rather warm and the track was heavy at the racecourse, but all of the Cowra representatives ran their hardest. Ella, Imogen and McKay did us proud and although they did not qualify for State, their effort were admirable. Well done!
