Cowra Public School NEWS Term 2, Week 7
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
NSW Department of Education and Communities
Dear Parents An incredibly busy week with students going every direction in relation to events, games, performances and thankfully, school work. Last Friday our school performed at the Eisteddfod showcase of winning acts with Mrs Hilton conducting the Senior Choir. Although there was a small technical difficulty with the music equipment, the choir showed their class by carrying on and not missing a beat. A huge thankyou to the children and parents for the effort in attending the night and representing our school so proudly. Mrs Hilton again led our children to the highest level this year and we thank her for her continued effort and expertise. In what was only a short week, the school has been a hive of activity starting with a

soccer game for the boys on Tuesday. Our team played Mulyan and although the win went to the other team our boys played well and competed with a very high level of sportsmanship. Yesterday our school had children all across the region with several students at Geurie for the Western Region Cross Country. All Cowra Public School students performed well with top ten placings from Beryl Brown and Isabella Scammell. A big thank you to all the parents who attended the day and assisted in transport of children to the event. Also on Wednesday was the Western Dance Festival event held in Bathurst. Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Duncan took our dancers in what was a huge day of performances from schools across Western NSW. The students started the day at 7am and only returned to Cowra at 11pm. Our girls all performed extremely well with many coordinators at the event commenting on their conduct and manners during the day. Many parents who attended also remarked on the high quality of the two performances during the day and how well our girls shone. Many of the girls had also competed at Cross Country early in the day and then travelled to Bathurst for the evening performance. A huge thank you to Gerard McGill for driving the bus to the event.

Today a number of our students have been involved in a Combined Choir rehearsal at the High School in preparation for a school concert being held next term in Week 3. Along with these students three talented drama students being Niamh Webster, Lorissa Wood and Kayla Hall have been working with the High School drama teacher to prepare for their performance at the same concert. Cowra Public School is so full of talent it is no wonder that we are having a Talent Quest in only two weeks. Auditions have been held and a huge night of entertainment is guaranteed. As we

SPORT continued PSSA BOYS’ SOCCER - COWRA VERSUS MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL On Tuesday the Cowra Public School Boy’s Soccer team played Mulyan Public School at River Park, Cowra. It was a very physical game with injuries on both sides. Harlee Simms played a brilliant game in goal, saving more than he let in and Gary Cheng was vital in defence, saving many more. Although Mulyan proved to be too good scoring seven goals Cowra was unlucky not to score with missed opportunities by Mac Webster, Mitchell Graham and Brayden Harris. Unfortunately our boys went down to a very well drilled Mulyan side. It was a close game on the field but the score was sadly 70. Even though the boys were beaten on the day all boys showed excellent ball skills and played the game in a friendly and competitive manner. The team wishes Mulyan Public School the best of luck in the next round on Friday. The team was: Mac Webster

The top eight in each age group will compete in their event on the day of the Carnival. High jump and long jump will take place on Friday lunchtime for those students who are keen to compete in these events. On Wednesday this week seven athletes travelled to Geurie to compete in the Regional Cross Country trails.
Players will need to leave Cowra no later than 6.00am and upon arrival, locate Mr Albert Murray. As we will be arriving
back to Cowra after normal school time, it is expected that children not travelling with their families organise pickup arrangements. Albert Murray Coach
Congratulations to all the competitors who performed admirably on the day. Unfortunately at this stage no one got through to the State trials. The athletes were: Beryl Brown, Eliza Mulligan, Ella Meeuwisse, Isabella Scammell, Courtney Wright, Madeleine Mulligan and Glenn Saxby. The P&C Association run our school’s canteen and offer an affordable and healthy service to students and staff. All profits made in our canteen are spent on projects within our school. Our canteen manger, Lisa Willis desperately needs volunteers to assist in running the canteen this year. Please consider spending one day a month or term volunteering.
