SCHOOL ASSEMBLY POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT WEEK FRIDAY 6TH JULY 11.30AM
Welcome to Week 9! With the school holidays just around the corner, students and teachers have been busy finalising learning units and working hard to complete all activities by the end of term. Our school student reports are now in the printing phase and there have been a few hiccups with the print run. Mrs Oborn and Mrs Williams have been working hard to solve these technical glitches, however as a result, we have had to push our report distribution date back from Monday 2nd July to next Wednesday 4th July. We apologise for any inconvenience. The progress on our new school fence has been amazing to watch and we are thrilled with how quickly the team has worked to get three-quarters of the school perimeter completed. As they begin work on the front section where the bus lines are, there will be some changes to the access points for parents collecting their children. A disability access ramp will be installed at the Dental Clinic and the pedestrian gate near the Infants play equipment will be cordoned off for the remainder of the term. Infants students will need to enter and exit the school via the main administration doors. The gates will be the last items to be installed so please be mindful of this when picking up and dropping off your children. If everything (including the weather!) goes to plan, the roofing and painting in the Infants building AND the fence should all be completed by the start of Term 3! Mrs Vicki Heilman has announced her retirement as our long-standing School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) and will have her final day of work at Cowra PS this coming Friday 29th June. Vicki’s career has stretched over 30 years at CPS and in this time she has helped literally thousands of students to reach their full potential. Vicki will take some well-deserved long service leave before her official retirement next term, and on behalf of all students, staff and parents, past and present, I wish her a long and happy retirement! Next term we welcome Mrs Amanda Partridge to the CPS teaching team. Mrs Partridge will be relieving Mrs Montgomery on Tuesdays for the rest of the year and is looking forward to teaching Barrandhang 2C, Ganyi 2D, Gulambali 1H and Gadi 2JM in Library! I also received news this week that we have a new “School Psychologist – Education” appointed to the Cowra area under the transfer system. Mrs Wanda Whitmill will take up this position which is based at Cowra PS, from the beginning of 2019. Mrs Amy Goodwin will continue her wonderful work relieving in this role for the remainder of the year. This week our school was fortunate to host “Operation Art”, which is an initiative run by Westmead Children’s Hospital and the Department of Education Arts Unit. CPS has been delighted to have artist Niki Martignago visit our school and provide specialised tuition to students who have a passion and talent for visual arts. Miss Raelene Beecher from Mulyan PS has done a wonderful job coordinating this event for not only Cowra PS students, but students from Mulyan, Mullion Creek, Spring Hill and Canowindra. The students who participated had a wonderful time and were very excited and proud to show their completed artworks. Special thanks to Miss Beecher and the parent helpers and teachers from all schools that assisted during the week. Next week is NAIDOC Week and we have some wonderful events planned each day. Our flag-raising ceremony will take place on Monday morning at 9:30am at the front of the school and all parents and community members are welcome to attend. The NAIDOC Fair on Thursday at Cowra High School is sure to be a highlight and Stage 2 and Stage 3 students received a permission note and lunch order form for this event, earlier this week. Please make sure any lunch order forms are returned by tomorrow so that we can notify the Lions Club and Yalbillinga of catering numbers. A full program for all of our NAIDOC Week activities is attached. Just a reminder that our K-6 assembly scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed until the following Friday 6th July, due to a large number of staff and students away. Athletics and Cross Country Champions as well as the Champion House from the Athletics carnival will be announced, along with our usual merit and PBL awards. We hope to see everyone at 11:30am in the Hall next week. Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal
