PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
23 June 2016
Term 2, Week 9
Dear Parents Our school truly has a tremendous level of support and this was evident with the strong showing at our Women in Wool fashion parade held on the weekend. Although the local district has been inundated with poor weather and cold temperatures, a good number of ladies made the trek to the Mulligan winery and enjoyed a spectacular display of fashion and fun, with all models looking like they had a great time. I thank eve ryone w ho a tten ded and participated and especially Carla from In Style for Women who supplied the clothes but my biggest acknowledgement goes to Kylie Wood for her enormous effort in organising the event. This week our school has been extremelyquiet with our Stage 2 classes away at different points of the week at the Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney. The students, parents and staff who have attended the excursion in the early part of the week have all returned extremely tired but very impressed with the activities and the experience of the col onial days. The sl eeping arrangements apparently were an experience to remember. Our second group return tonight and I would like to thank all staff and parents who were able to attend and assist.

NAIDOC Assembly
NSW Department of Education and Communities Our Stage 2 students on their excursion to Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney decided to see if they could get on “Sunrise” television this morning. Can you see their excited faces peeing through the window?
At school, our classes have been busy completing a number of units of work and I have been delighted by the number of students who have been sent to the office to see the Principal to ‘SHOW OFF’ their outstanding work. I visit most classes daily and look at what the classes are doing and this week had the great pleasure of going into E2-3, who proceeded to showcase their work with clear pride in their own achievements. Our P&C have again benefitted by the sale of lamingtons and we thank Nigel Hazell for organising the drive and everyone who purchased the cakes and hope they enjoy them with a warm cuppa. Tomorrow will be the commencement of the NAIDOC Week celebrations at our school with the official Flag raising being held at 10.30am. We invite all community members to this event and look forward to

Finally all reports will be presented to students early next week and we are delighted with the progress shown during the semester. NAIDOC PUBLIC SPEAKING CHALLENGE Last Thursday, Jake Roberts, Tahlee-Pearl Beckett, Mac Webster and Tyahla Munro accompanied Mrs Long to the Cowra Civic Centre to contest the Lachlan NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge. The topic for this year's competition was "Songlines: The Living Narrative of Our Nation", and there were 11 teams competing from around the Lachlan area, from as far afield as Tottenham and Condobolin. Our first team of Tahlee-Pearl and Jake delivered a fine speech and both students spoke clearly with very little evidence of nerves. Jake in particular, as a first time competitor in this competition, spoke like a seasoned professional and attracted many positive comments on his speaking from other schools. Our second team of Mac and Tyahla performed near the end of the competition, which was quite nerve racking as they watched some outstanding speakers from other schools perform before them. Mac and Tyahla presented a fantastic speech that was both informative and entertaining. After a very long and nervous wait, Mac and Tyahla were judged to be the winners of this years competition for the Lachlan Region, with Holmwood Public School finishing a close second. One of the judges for the day, Australian actor Mr Luke Carroll, commented on the high standard of competition for the Lachlan Region. We were privileged to have Mr Carroll talk to us about his life and career, and his speech highlighted the importance of taking and making the most of life's opportunities as they arise - very interesting and inspirational! Congratulations to our winning team who now progress to the Western District finals in September this year. I would like to thank the students for their very hard work over the last three weeks. The students not only wrote their own speeches, but took responsibility for practising their speeches together in their lunchtimes and at home. The high quality of their final speeches demonstrated their personal commitment to this worthwhile competition. Well done! SCHOOL SPECTACULAR 2016
Farewell Assembly
23-26 November We are thrilled to announce that our school was successful in securing a place in the 2016 Schools Spectacular - “Dream Big”. We are again able to select dancers for the Combined Dance.
for
Bradley Tom Kaye Kilby Kerry Cole
This is an excellent opportunity for all involved. It is a huge commitment with time and expenses, as we will be required to be in Sydney over a 5 day period. There will be costume, accommodation and meal costs. We will secure funding from the school and also apply for community grants and donations to subsidise the costs but most of the costs will need to be covered by the families of each dancer. It is anticipated that this will be approximately $400 per student. The cost can be paid off like a layby system.
Thursday, 30 June
The teachers, Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Duncan will again be with the students in Sydney from the Wednesday through to the Sunday morning for rehearsals and the concerts. We invite parents to then attend the performances but your accommodation will be separate to the students. We have secured accommodation for the students and teachers at the Woolbroker at Darling Harbour. On the first night we will stay at the Great Southern Hotel, in George St, Sydney. Travel arrangements to the Schools Spectacular will be confirmed shortly. All students will need to be brought home after the Schools Spectacular with their families.

Everyone is welcome
The Schools Spectacular performance this year will be at Qudos Bank Arena in Homebush (previously know as ACER arena). To be performing in the same arena as many famous singers is an amazing lifelong memory your children will cherish forever. Debbie Cobcroft and Shavaughn Duncan

‘BLITZ ON NITS’ Following an outbreak of head lice, the school is recommending that each child be thoroughly examined and if necessary treated at home. Please find below a summary guide of how to identify, treat and break the head lice cycle. 1.
Identification: Check your child’s hair for live lice and either yellowish white eggs (live nits) or brown or black eggs (dead nits). Hatched eggs are white and flat, like grains of salt or dandruff.
2.
Treatment: Consult your pharmacist about which product is best suited for your child. Re-treatment should be carried out about 7 days after the f i r s t treatment to kill any juvenile lice that may have hatched since the first treatment.
3.
Elimination: Remove eggs and lice by using a fine-tooth comb and conditioner, egg remover or combing solution.
4.
Prevention: Wash all bed linen and clothes, including hats thoroughly in warm water and detergent. It is also a good to thoroughly iron hats and pillow cases.
