Cowra Public School NEWS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
NSW Department of Education
Dear Parents Welcome back to winter and Term 3. I hope everyone had a great holiday and enjoyed spending time with their children. This term the school will be welcoming Ms Gardoll to the role of teacher in H1 and we also are delighted to have Mrs Blackmore back at our school while Mrs Myles is on leave until Week 5.
on Monday. All parents are welcome to come to along to cheer. We encourage all parents to provide warm clothing for when their children are not running. The school will also be hosting the highly successful ‘Sticks and Stones’ show which is based on resilience building. This show is free of charge to all students and one that complements our PBL system. At the end of the week the children in K-2 will be also having the delightful experience of the Responsible Pet Program. This program teaches children the correct way to approach dogs and animals and talks about how to look after animals in the right way.
Cowra Public has always been a school to promote opportunity for the children and even today in our extreme weather we have 55 senior students going to Orange, not to play in the snow, but to watch the production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. This student production should be an outstanding experience for our students and one they will get a lot out of.
Our school, like all public schools in Cowra, Canowindra and surrounding areas will be involved in a Gala Concert celebrating the wonderful student talent and programs offered by our schools. The performances will be held over two day on Wednesday 29 July and Thursday 30 July which coincides with Education Week. Tickets will be available from the school starting next week and we encourage all parents and community members to not hesitate in purchasing quickly. The concert will also be the launch of the Lachlan Valley Learning Community which underpins the strong
We are looking forward to a very productive term with several events happening. Firstly we will be holding a P&C working bee at the school on Sunday starting at 10am. We are inviting all parents to come along as a number of planting projects will be undertaken. We ask that wheelbarrows and shovels are brought along as we have a large amount of mulch to move and trees to be planted. Even offering a few hours would be greatly appreciated and the more people the merrier. Next week the school will be starting the week with the Athletics Carnival being held
Primary Athletics Carnival postponed till Monday, 20 July
All welcome CONTACTING THE SCHOOL 8.30am - 3.30pm
School finishes at 3.15pm Students are not supervised before 8.45am
Next Thursday we will be holding the first P&C meeting of the term and we encourage everyone to attend starting at 6pm. At the end of next week the Cowra Public School P&C will be holding a fashion parade on Saturday, 25 July at the Mulligan Bunker at il Campanile di Cowra. This event will be coordinated by Mrs Kylie Wood and Carla Sparks and is sure to be a hit with the wonderful fashions on show and for sale. We encourage all ladies to take up this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a great afternoon and pick up a bargain. Lastly I would like to commend all parents for the fantastic presentation of their children on the return to school and we look forward to a very hard working and productive term.

LACHLAN VALLEY LEARNING GROUP EDUCATION WEEK CONCERT
STAGE 3 EXCURSION TO NARRABEEN MONDAY, 16TH FRIDAY, 20TH NOVEMBER Students in Stage 3 have been given the opportunity to attend the New South Wales Academy of Sport at Narrabeen.
Over the past two terms Principals and staff from schools in Cowra, Canowindra and surrounding districts have been meeting regularly to discuss the formations of the group called Lachlan Valley Learning Community. This group of public schools has joined together to emphasis and highlight the importance and strength of public schools and the power of a Kindergarten to Year 12 education within this area. The group has been looking at ways that each school complements each other as well as how we can recognise the diversity we have within our school communities. To celebrate the launch of the Lachlan Valley Learning Community this year, as part of Education Week celebration, a grand concert and art display will be held. The concert will take place on Wednesday, 29 July and Thursday, 30 July. The official launch will take place in the Theatrette of the Cowra Civic Centre on Wednesday, 29 July commencing at 6.00pm followed by a concert at 7.00pm featuring students from all schools and then a second performance will be held on Thursday, 30 July. PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE All Cowra Public School students will be participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge this term. The Challenge is a great opportunity for children to focus on the amount of physical activity they undertake each week as they record their activity levels in a Log Book during each PE lesson. The more time spent on physical activity, the higher the ‘medal’ (certificate) awarded at the end of the challenge. 39 minutes per day = Bronze
45 minutes per day = Silver 60 minutes per day = Gold 80 minutes per day = Diamond.
Each class group’s efforts are averaged over 10 weeks and a certificate is awarded at the beginning of next term. K-2 students record some activity for each day and receive a certificate based on the school average. All physical activity counts, play at school, walking the dog, footy/soccer/netball/hockey training, PE and Sport at school, Saturday sport, Dance, Martial Art, Gymnastics, Horse riding etc. All families are strongly encouraged to discuss the Challenge at home and use this opportunity to find ways to become more active and spend less time looking at a screen. Good luck everyone!

P&C P & C MEETING The P & C will be holding their meeting next Thursday night (23 July) at 6.00pm in the school staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend. Two items being discussed are: Garden blitz at the school this Sunday, 19 July. The P & C would appreciate as many parents, grandparents and friends as possible to assist with the blitz. The Blitz commences at 10.00am on Sunday.
P & C GARDEN UPGRADE Thanks to Gerard McGill and Hugh Scammell there has been some great changes to the gardens at the school over the holidays. Over the last few months the P&C has been planning to create a green screen along the northern boundary of the school for more privacy from the Coles car park as well as the addition a lovely native garden around the canteen area. We are proposing to get this job done "backyard Blitz” style in one day with the help of you! We would appreciate any help at all on Sunday 19th July 10.00am onwards. Bring your kids and they can plant a tree that they will drive past for the rest of their life and admire. I know I did that at my old school. More details later. P&C School Beautification Committee
