Cowra Public School NEWS Term 3, Week 10
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents This week is the culmination of a busy term! On Tuesday our school leaders attended the World Peace Day Forum at the Civic Centre. The guest speaker was Ms Laura John, the 2014 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations. It is a great privilege to be able to attend functions such as these and once again our leaders displayed those qualities which make them such exemplary representatives of our school. We hope that many families had the opportunity to visit the school display at the Cowra Show. Congratulations to those students who entered sections in the show and in particular those with winning and highly commended entries. This was a wonderful showcase of the talent within our school body as well as highlighting the many opportunities and activities available to our students. Of course a great deal of work goes into the display, both before the actual days of the show, constructing the display and then manning our booth over the two days. Our thanks to Stage 3 teachers who took
NSW Department of Education on the responsibility of organising the stall this year and all who were able to provide support in manning our display. Today students, staff and any willing parents were able to participate in our PBL Reward Day. This is one of the highlights of our PBL calendar where we celebrate our successful learning community. PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) is a process to improve academic and behavioural outcomes for students, through the systematic establishment of school wide expectations. The success of our PBL program is reflected not just in days such as this but in the positive comments that we received when our students our out of the school or have visitors within the school. Congratulations to all our students. This is the last week for Kristen Ryan on KW and Krystal Coker on C1, who have been with us as part of their Professional Experience. We have been fortunate to have two such committed future teachers. We wish them the very best in their careers.
We are only able to provide our students with the range of opportunities and experiences we have through the generosity and support of our parent body. We would like to thank you for this support and wish you an enjoyable, refreshing and safe holiday. Please remember that Monday, 5 October is a Public Holiday. Regards.

At this stage our students have raised over $600.00 for the Heart Foundation and it would be greatly appreciated if any outstanding funds (cash rather than online fundraising) be returned to the school office TOMORROW.

A guide for parents, As a parent or carer you play an important role in making sure your kids are spending time in places that are safe. This guide will help you look out for ‘child safe’ places. What is a ‘child safe’ place? Child safe means making sure the place where our kids spend time is safe from neglect, physical, sexual or emotional harm or abuse. A child safe place will have rules that are set up to make sure our kids are kept safe. Parents have a right to know who is working with their children. It is your business to know who is working with your children. Every day kids around NSW spend time with adults outside of their home. This can be at places like a sports club, youth group centre, or a drama studio. As a parent or guardian you need to understand what organisations should be doing to keep your child safe. It is the law that people who work with your children including, any tutors, nannies, coaches and counsellors have a current Working With Children Check. However, there is much more an organisation can do to keep kids safe. Understanding the Working With Children Check. In NSW all people who are working with children need to have a current NSW Working With Children Check clearance number. Some people don’t have to get a Working with Children Check number, such as a parent that volunteers in an activity that involves their own child. e.g. a sports coach. The check provides either a clearance or a bar to work with children. It is a crime for a person with a bar to work or volunteers with children. For more information please go to: www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/childsafe or contact on (02) 8219 3600
