Premier’s Spelling Bee
On Thursday, 13th August, the school finals of the Premier’s Spelling Bee took place. Due to the popularity of the recent Great Australian Spelling Bee on TV, there was a record number of entrants. Fourteen students contested the Junior competition. They were Calhum Henry, Abby Slattery, Ryan Louttit, IndigoThornett, Jacob Richardson, Neve Anthony, Harley Day, Montana Brown, Summer Williams, Zoe Browne, Mackenzie Crook, Bailey Callaghan and Kayne Veney. All students spelt strongly for a number of rounds, until eventually, the winners were declared. Harley Day is our Junior Spelling Champion for the second year in a row. Ryan Louttit of Year 3 also performed well and is this year’s runner– up. This was a fantastic effort for his first ever spelling bee. In the Senior competition, thirteen students displayed their superior spelling skills in what turned out be a very difficult contest. They were Zac Olbourne, Dylan Gallagher, Ruby McKeown, Georgia Shingles, Cooper Melhuish, Lawson Spratt, Laura Horvath-Pledger, Thomas Negus, Hugh Gillham, Jessica Fuller, Joshua Schneiders, Joel Diamond-Squires and Saxon McGregor. After several nailbiting rounds, there were only two competitors left—Thomas Negus and Ruby McKeown. Ruby and Thomas fought it out to the end, both spelling strongly. Tom was eventually victorious to become our Senior Spelling Champion while Ruby is our very worthy runner-up. Congratulations to all students who competed. They were all well-prepared, having to learn a huge list of very difficult words. Harley, Ryan, Tom and Ruby will now train and prepare for the regional final to be held at Millthorpe Public School on Wednesday, 9th September. We wish them all good luck and hope that we have another entrant in the State final to be held in Sydney in November.

The school has once again registered for the Woolworth Earn and Lean promotion. This promotion starts today and runs until 8th September. For every $10 spent, a sticker is gained which is placed on a sticker sheet and once completed. This is placed in a collection box either at school or at our local Woolworths. This is then redeemed for educational resources. In previous years, we have been able to gained much needed classroom and sporting resources for our students. So if you or anyone you know happens to be shopping at Woolworths, please ask them to collect the stickers for our school. They will be wisely used.
Kindergarten Enrolment It is about this time each year we ask for the names of Kindergarten students for the coming year. If you have a child who has turned 5 or will turn 5 before the 31st July 2016 and you wish to enrol them at our school, please contact the office. We will take their names and will send out enrolment forms later in the term. Details of the Orientation Program will be sent out to children on our list later in the term along with an invitation for the child to participate in the Orientation Program. If you know of anyone who has a child ready to start school, please remind them of our school. If you are not sure if your child is ready for school, please contact us and we will be happy to give you some advice and guidance. It is important that we get accurate projected numbers for 2016 as this affects our staffing, as well as funding.
