Cowra Public School NEWS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Term 3, Week 1

NSW Department of Education and Communities

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 3 and our current blast of winter. I hope everyone was able to stay warm and enjoy the break and avoid the flu, colds and coughs. This term the school will be very busy with the children involved in many activities including regular class work, athletics, cross county, sport, excursions and special projects. The school is delighted to welcome eight new students to our school to commence the term. We are very pleased that so many new families are choosing our school for our strong reputation in Cowra and the Western Area. Our weather god (Mrs Duncan) has again ensured that the sun will be out on Tuesday, 22 July for the school to run the Athletics Carnival. Third time lucky but with full confidence of a perfect day we will

Tonight the school will be holding the first P&C meeting of Term 3 and we welcome all members of the school community to attend. The school was delighted with the outstanding result of the School Disco last term and thank the P&C for running the canteen on the night. Tomorrow the school will be represented by Ella Meeuwisse and Eliza Mulligan at the State Cross Country Championships being held at Eastern Creek in Sydney. We wish both girls the best of luck on the day and congratulate them for reaching the state level. A very exciting project this term is the Archikidz program that will see a large number of students from across Cowra schools participating in a wonderful activity based design project. This project

will see a large number of architects, town planners, engineers and builders working with our children in what is seen as an incredibly enriching activity. More information will go out closer to the date. In Week 3 we celebrate Education Week with our Open Day being held on Thursday, 31 July. We will once again be holding our Pedlar’s Parade and inviting families to visit classrooms and enjoy morning tea and lunch with their children. Don’t forget that Healthy Harold will be coming to our school next Friday and all students will be visiting the Life Education Van. Enjoy the week.

SPORT continued WESTERN REGION RUGBY LEAGUE Congratulations to Josh Pokoney of Cowra Public School who competed as a part of the Western team in the NSW PSSA Opens Rugby League carnival, held June 17-19 at Kingscliff on the North Coast. The team lead by coach Mr Andrew Hooper of Grenfell Public School acquitted themselves tremendously well over the 3 days, growing in confidence and cohesion each game, impressing coaches, parents and spectators with their steely defence, determination and commitment to teammates. Western found themselves in what turned out to be the hardest side of the draw having to play both eventual winners Sydney West and runners up, MacKillop holding both teams to narrow loses as well as North Coast, Hunter, South Coast and Riverina. A very unlucky 6-4 defeat to Hunter and then 10-6 win over the fancied South Coast team and then a 22-0 victory over Riverina topped off a great Carnival. In the all of his games Josh worked hard and showed a positive attitude. He should be commended and congratulated on his efforts throughout the carnival. Thanks and congratulations should also got to all of the parents who not only took time from work and arranged for transport, but also cheered and supported the team each game, adding to the good nature of the carnival. With the likes of the kids in this year’s Western Open team, rugby league and school sports, look in good shape for the future. Sydney East hosts next year’s Open League carnival in Cronulla, so all boys and girls that love and play rugby league need to ensure they nominate for their school team and trial in 2015. Paul Faulkner – team manager.
