Cowra Public School NEWS Term 3, Week 10
NSW Department of Education and Communities
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents Bingo, Bingo, Bingo will be the call tonight as the Cowra P&C hosts the Bingo night at the school auditorium. The evening starts at 6pm with a BBQ on offer serving chicken kebabs, steak and sausage sandwiches. The canteen will also be operating for drinks, popcorn and sweets. The doors to the auditorium will open at 6.30pm with the first Bingo game scheduled to commence at 7pm. The school has been tremendously supported by the Cowra business community and we are delighted to confirm that we will be offering over $1500 worth of prizes. The cost of each game is minimal and game sheets are to be purchased at the door. This event is a family evening and we encourage parents to bring their children. All children attending must be with an adult who is directly responsible for their supervision. Last week the students of Cowra were involved in Archikidz Goes Bush. Sixty eight CPS students joined over 250 others over three days and were immersed in practical design and construction practises working with engineers and architects at the Corridor Project. In what was a truly great event the children

thrived in being allowed to be unhindered in their designs and thoughts and the construction of the shelters created was unbelievable. A huge thanks go to the coordinating and organising team for making the event a reality. See the great pictures of students enjoying the day on Page 4. The last week of Term 3 has again been very productive at the school with Stage 3 being involved in a Cricket Gala Day on Tuesday. This event was well received by our students and enjoyed until it was cut short at lunch time due to a shower of rain. Also on Tuesday, I took a group of 17 students adventuring as part of the Adventure Club. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed a great day of mountain climbing, bush walking along a cascading waterfall and caving. The children enjoyed the activities and were very exhausted at the end of the day. On Monday four students represented Cowra Public School at the Premier’s Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Archie Osborne who came 2nd and Mac Webster who came 4th in the Stage 2 section. Also congratulations to Jessica Henderson who reached Level 4 and Tess Roberts who reached Level 2 in the Stage 3 section. On Wednesday our Kindergarten classes travelled to the Japanese Gardens and experienced an array of activities in conjunction with the Cherry Blossom Festival. Kite flying was a huge hit with our children and Mrs White reported back to the school that the Cowra Public children were attentive, respectful, appreciative and stood out clearly amongst those attending. Well done to our fine ambassadors. Pictures of the children enjoying the day are on page 5. Today Mr Lewis has taken a group of seventeen students to a combined interschool tennis day. Our students will be playing other local schools in a fun event arranged by the schools to promote tennis

within Cowra. On Friday the children in Stage 3 will be participating in a Social Skills Day that should be a great way to finish the term. The children will be enjoying the opportunity to participate in the decision process of what activities they will be involved in, how to organise what is needed and rules that will be applied. They will also be going to McDonalds for lunch which is a once a year treat for our students and they are looking forward to it. Our Stage 3 teachers always report the wonderful response the children have to this day. In reflecting on the term it is amazing we have been able to finish. With so many lessons and events being delivered the students and staff are all looking forward to a well-earned rest. During the break however the school will still be a very busy place with new air conditioning going into Mrs Duncan’s sports centre and a new phone system being installed into the school. I hope all families have a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone recommence school on Tuesday, 7 October straight after the long weekend. Brad Tom

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS Cowra Public School Canteen
CLOTHING POOL The school runs a very well equipped Clothing Pool. The Clothing Pool is run by the canteen manager, Mrs Lisa Willis. Lisa is available to show parents the stock at any time. Please be mindful that Lisa is extremely busy before school taking lunch orders etc and at recess and lunch times. The Clothing Pool has girl’s summer uniforms, boy’s shorts and shirts and both boy’s and girl’s sports clothes. The clothing pool also stocks chair bags and library bags. If any parent has school clothing in good condition they wish to sell, please label the clothing with your name and phone number along with the amount you wish to sell it for. The P & C take a small commission on the sale.
RED DAY What a great success the canteen Red Day was yesterday! Lots of students enjoyed hot dogs and treats for lunch thanks to the Canteen and the volunteers who assisted on the day. A special thank you to Natalie Crutch and Kim Meeuwisse for their assistance with the day. The canteen looked great all decorated with the colours of the football teams.
Unfortunately helpers in the Canteen have dwindled down to only two. We used to have someone to assist everyday of the week. There are 200 plus families who attend Cowra Public School, we would like to think more than two families are able to come to the rescue. With this in mind, we hope to put together a team so that we can revamp our canteen menus and continue to operate profitably. The benefits are twofold for all who attend Cowra Public. We can serve them the best food options possible and the P&C can direct funds raised towards improving facilities within the school. To make any difference to the operation of the canteen we really need the assistance of workers in a couple of ways. 1. People to be rostered on to one or two days per term to assist from say 9.30 am to 2pm. (there will be a roster for the school term and volunteers given a copy in advance). 2. People to assist on some baking/food preparation days. We are hoping to put some new menus in place for Term 4. So some planning is required to make it happen. If we want to serve healthier food we need HANDS to make it otherwise it won't happen. There are a lot of kids that really rely on the canteen and we owe it to them to provide some healthier options. It would be appreciated if you would consider volunteering if at all possible. Even if it is for an hour or so on certain days it really helps out. Please contact me via email or text if you would like to register your interest. Look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Kind regards Kim Meeuwisse
