Cowra Public School NEWS 25 September 2016

Term 3, Week 10

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

NSW Department of Education and Communities

Dear Parents After 10 exciting weeks here at Cowra Public School our Term 3 draws to an end. I would like to thank our students for their continuing outstanding attitudes to their studies and the commitment they have made to improvement and educational growth. Equally I would like to thank the teachers and the support staff for their utter dedication to the students at this school. We are indeed lucky to have such a sharing and collegial staff at this great public school institution and to have worked alongside these dedicated professionals has been a privilege for me as relieving principal. I would also like to pay tribute to the caring and dedicated band of P&C members who work tirelessly to improve the grounds of the school. The working bee earlier this term saw parents give up their time on a Sunday to help improve these grounds – and the parents who assisted at the disco worked hard throughout the evening in the canteen and on the BBQ. A special thank you to the volunteer readers and all those who have given of their time this term for the greater good of the students at this school. It is a truism that a school is only as good as the dedication of staff, support people, volunteers and community involvement – which makes Cowra Public School one of the best!

PS Principal) has been appointed principal from 2017 onwards. I will relieve as Principal until the end of the year and will look forward to serving you in that capacity. I am saddened that I will be leaving Cowra at the end of the year as I have thoroughly enjoyed serving this community. In the short time that I have known you all, you have made a considerable impact on me which makes leaving that much harder. I wish the Cowra school community the very best for the future. May this school long remain a shining light for public education in this wonderful rural community. I wish you all a very happy holiday. Safe travels wherever you go. Steve Wilkinson Principal (Rlvg)

The position of principal has been finalised and I can report that Mrs Jenny Lewis (current Holmwood

TEA TOWEL FUNDRAISER As part of our fundraising efforts for our school’s participation in the Schools’ Spectacular, our school will be creating and selling limited edition tea towels. The tea towel design will be made up of self-portraits drawn by all our children and staff. The pictures and names will be arranged all together to create two commemorative designs, one for the infants section and one for the primary section. The tea towels will be screen printed in Royal Blue onto premium quality white cotton tea towels (50x70cm). We chose the tea towels because everyone loves them - the children are thrilled to see their own artwork in print; they make a lasting memento to remember classmates, are amazing as gifts for parents, relatives and special friends or just use them to dry the dishes! The tea towels will be available early in Term 4, so they will make SPECTACULAR Christmas gifts, especially for those friends and family that can be hard to buy for. Make sure you don’t miss out. There is a sample tea towel at our school office to view. It is only $15 for one limited edition tea towel, or save by ordering 3 for $40. Don’t forget to order a few extras for family members and your keepsake box. Tea towels can be ordered by completing the form below and returning with payment in an envelope clearly marked “TEA TOWEL ORDER”. Payments can also be made by electronic transfer by going onto the Cowra Public School website and clicking on the “make a payment” option. (Please note – this option still requires the order form to be returned to the office). Thank you for your continued support. Final orders are due before 

STAGE 3 T20 CRICKET DAY On Tuesday, 20 September 2016 all of Stage 3 were invited by the Cowra District Cricket Association to take part in a T20 Cricket Day at Twig Oval (River Park). Mulyan Public School, St Raphael’s School and Cowra Public School competed on the day.

PSSA GOLF On Monday and Tuesday this week Jayden Brown travelled to Blackheath, Sydney to compete in the Western Region Golf Championship. Jayden performed exceptionally well under very trying conditions. The Western Region convenor, Jodine Jackson described Jayden as a brilliant player as well as being a polite, well behaved member of the team. She said Jayden was a delight to have and an excellent role model for junior players.

It was a fantastic day but unfortunately Cowra Public School was beaten on the day. The Competitive Red team won three of their five games but were beaten by St Raphael’s and Mulyan. The competitive Green team won two of their four games and the uncompetitive black team won all of their games. Thanks to the Cowra High School students who umpired the games and to Mrs Eldridge who organised such a fun day. By Mitchell Graham and Brayden Harris
