Dear Parents/Caregivers, Welcome to Term 3! I hope all families had a terrific winter break and enjoyed the chance to relax and recharge with family and friends. The children have come back ready and refreshed for another busy term, with many having had a growth spurt over the holidays! I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families who have joined the CPS school community this term and look forward to an exciting term ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to also welcome new staff members; Miss Samantha Dunk and Mrs Tanya Murray to Cowra Public School. Miss Dunk takes on the PE/Sport role and will be teaching weekly PE lessons to students from K-6 as well as co-ordinating the weekly Sport activities. Mrs Murray will be working alongside Mrs Williams and Mrs Sharkey in the office, replacing Mrs Hubbard who has been appointed as School Administration Manager at Holmwood PS. Both ladies have thoroughly enjoyed their first week at CPS and are looking forward to getting to know the students and their families. The Term 3 Calendar is filling up fast with Education Week activities being planned for Week 3. Many of our CPS students will be involved in the biennial “Lachlan Valley Learning Community Concert” which showcases the skills and talents of students across ten schools in the Lachlan area. Selected students have been invited to perform in the Choir, Band and Dance sections of the concert and this will be held on Wednesday 2nd August at the Cowra Civic Centre starting at 7:00pm. The Infants Peddler’s Parade, Open Classrooms and Parent’s Morning Tea will also be held during Education Week on Thursday 3rd August – more details to come in next week’s newsletter. Many students are also involved in a number of sporting activities coming up including the PSSA Girls Soccer Knockout match against Mulyan, the State PSSA Hockey Carnival and the Cowra District Athletics Carnival. Congratulations and good luck to all involved! Towards the end of last term we received word that Imogen Chambers was successful in gaining selection in the Western Region PSSA Soccer Team. This is a wonderful achievement and we congratulate Imogen and wish her the very best as she competes at the State PSSA Soccer Carnival later this term! This term we are also excited to host visits from all the Cowra pre-schools as we commence our Kindergarten Transition program. Parents of children attending Kindergarten in 2018 are warmly invited to come along to our Parent Information Night on Monday 14th August, to meet the teachers, tour the classrooms and ask any questions they may have about their child starting school. Kindergarten 2018 Enrolment packs are now available from the office so please call in and see Mrs Williams, Mrs Murray and Mrs Sharkey and pick up your pack. Any parents wanting a personal tour of the school are encouraged to make an appointment - I would be delighted to show you around! Have a great week…

Premiers Sporting Challenge
COWRA PUBLIC SCHOOL Dear Parents/Carers Our school has registered to participate in the 2017 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Primary School Sport Challenge. The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport, games and physical activity -and to have more students, more active, more often! Over a ten week period ,in Term 4 our students will be monitoring physical activity we do during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport. What we do outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. Our aim is for all of us to average at least 60 minutes a day, every day for ten weeks. We would especially like to invite all our families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together. Each Primary student will be issued with a Challenge log book to record their daily physical activity. Students’ individual weekly results contribute to the class tally. Infants classes will record their Activity on a class poster displayed in the Sport and Fitness Centre. Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze - based on the class/team average), signed by the Premier of New South Wales. Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience while having fun with family and friends. If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Challenge or make suggestions, please contact Mrs Duncan or Ms Dunk who will be pleased to talk further with you. For more information on the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge please visit https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/psc I know our students are really looking forward to participating in the NSW Premier’s Primary School Sport Challenge and having fun along the way!
