Cowra Public School NEWS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Term 3, Week 2

NSW Department of Education and Communities

Dear Parents Last week on Friday Ella and Eliza competed at the State Cross Country Championships with both girls performing well in very talented fields of runners. Congratulations to both girls for reaching the state level.

Tomorrow we welcome Healthy Harold and the Life Education Van to the school in what is seen as a very important part of our educational program. The children will gain knowledge and awareness through a variety of lessons relating to healthy choices.

This week Cowra Public School held the annual Athletics Carnival in perfect weather as promised by Mrs Duncan. The day was a tremendous success with many students striving to do their best in their age races and field events. Several individuals really impressed with the senior girls and boys races going to the wire in each event. Our athletics champions and 2nd place getters will now progress through to the Cowra District Carnival on Friday, 8 August. The results of the carnival will be published in next week’s newsletter.

The school ties have arrived and will be available from the school office for $10, which is below cost price. Children will be able to purchase the ties straight away but they will also be able to be rewarded with a tie by reaching certain PBL Gotcha award levels. The school has purchased a limited number of ties and we encourage parents to purchase soon so as not be disappointed.

I would like to thank the parents and staff who were able to have a race on the day and congratulations to Mr Garlick taking out the run for the teachers. I would also like to thank those parents, high school students and staff members who assisted Mrs Duncan in making the day such a success.

Next week the school will be celebrating Education Week with several activities planned. Our major event will be Open Day starting with a parent session in the Life Education Van at 9.30am, followed by open rooms in the Infants at 10.30am-

11.00am. Following this parents are invited to have morning tea in the Auditorium prior to the Pedlar's Parade starting at 11.30am. In what is always a great event the Pedlars Parade is a lot of fun, where parents can purchase some fantastic bargain boxes of treasures. Following this the Primary classrooms will be open and we hope parents take the opportunity to see the wonderful work being completed in our amazing classrooms. After this parents are welcome to stay and have lunch with their children. Finishing off this week I would like to wish the Australian team the best of luck at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Cowra Public School will be getting into the spirit of the games over the next few weeks with a wonderful Cowra Sports Carnival planned with more details to come soon. Enjoy the week.

SPORT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL A huge thank you to the parents, staff and students who made the Athletics Carnival such a successful and enjoyable day. Under blue skies, we enjoyed an exciting day which saw huge efforts on the track and in the field events on offer. Congratulations to the placegetters on the day and to all those who have qualified to represent the school at the District Carnival in Cowra on Friday, 8 August. I am hopeful that the District team will be announced on Friday of this week providing that I can finalise all the results and ensure that all entries are correct. Notes will be given out as soon as possible. Representative Certificates for Cross Country have been awarded at today’s assembly as all of this year’s Cross Country events have now been completed culminating with the State Carnival last Friday. COMMONWEALTH GAMES DAY Cowra Public School has been invited to join other local schools in a special Commonwealth Games Day to be held on Friday, 22 August at Twigg Oval. We participated in an Olympic Games Day a few years ago and it was a great day of sporting fun and is coordinated by the same company. All students K-6 are involved and they will be participating as a group with students from other schools all representing “their” Commonwealth Country. The cost has been subsidised by the P & C and is $2.00 per child to participate in the day. A program of events will be included in next week’s newsletter. Shavaughn Duncan
