Dear Parents/Caregivers, What a busy week! Congratulations to our Girls PSSA Touch Football Team, who played a tough match against West Wyalong PS on Monday. The girls were defeated 9-0 but played with excellent sportsmanship and determination. Thank you to the coaches; Miss Dunk and Miss Noble for assisting the girls to reach this far in the knockout. Next week our Boys Soccer team take on the Orange Small Schools’ on Wednesday in Orange. Good luck to Miss James and the team, and thank you to those parents able to assist with transport. Yesterday and today, Stage 2 students and teachers had the opportunity to participate in a "Digi-Ed" workshop which focused on the skills of digital animation. This full-day workshop allows groups of students to use the stopmotion/claymation process, to brainstorm and plan a narrative using a story board, create characters using clay, animate, edit and add special sound effects and music to create a short film. In addition to these technological skills, students were required to work collaboratively, to communicate effectively and to cooperate with one another in order to end up with a finished product. Having seen the quality of their work, I am sure we have some future animators in our midst! Each student attended the Digi Ed workshop at no cost, thanks to a significant contribution from both the school and the P&C and we are thrilled to be able to provide this enrichment program to all Stage 2 students. Next week NSW Public Schools will be celebrating “Education Week”, with the 2018 theme being “Today’s schools – creating tomorrow’s world” and we will have some special activities and events at Cowra PS to mark this event. On Tuesday we will be holding “Open Day” and warmly invite all parents and grandparents to come up to the school to visit their children’s classrooms. Primary Open Classrooms will be held from 10:00-10:30am and Infants Open Classrooms from 10:30am-11:00am. This enables parents who may have children in Primary and Infants to visit both areas in the school. Following this, we invite all parents to share morning tea with the students and staff. The P&C will be providing delicious plates of food for parents to purchase from the canteen, along with tea and coffee.
After morning tea on Tuesday, the Infants classes will be holding their annual Pedlar’s Parade. This will run from 11:30am-12:30pm and will be held in the Hall. All parents and grandparents are encouraged to come along and purchase a tray of goodies which the students have proudly decorated and filled with items from home. The Pedlar’s Parade is an event not to be missed and I look forward to seeing lots of parents and friends in attendance! On Wednesday we are very excited to welcome the Life Education Van and ‘Healthy Harold’ back to Cowra Public. It has been two years since Healthy Harold’s last visit to CPS and all students look forward to spending time in the Van and learning about a range of healthy topics. The Life Education Van will be at CPS for just over a week and all students will have the opportunity to attend at no cost thanks to contributions from the school and proceeds from the Colour Run held in Term 1. On Thursday all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be attending a visiting performance from a company called “Brainstorm Productions”. The students will watch a professional theatrestyle show which has a focus on wellbeing and touches on a range of skills including developing resilience, making good choices and ways to build respectful relationships. This show covers elements from the PDHPE syllabus and supports our ongoing student wellbeing focus. This incursion is also at no cost to students as the funds raised from the Colour Run are being used so that ALL children K-6 can attend. It is certainly going to be a very exciting and busy Education Week! I look forward to meeting many of our new families and students starting Kindergarten in 2019 at our Parent Information Night next Thursday 9th August starting at 7pm in the Infants Open Space. If you know of any families with children starting school in 2019, please encourage them to come along and see what our amazing school has to offer! Have a great week…
