Cowra Public School NEWS 4 August 2016
Term 3, Week 3
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents The Open Day was a terrific success – as was our whole Education Week here at Cowra Public School. I have to admit to have never heard of a “Pedlars’ Parade” so I was very curious as to how this fabulous event worked. Having seen and experienced our “Pedlars’ Parade” today I am pleased to report I am sold on this fund raising venture. The trays of goodies looked amazing – and fun to put together. I would like to thank the parents for donating the trays as it certainly has helped raise vital funds for the Stage 1 (Kinder/1/2) students who will directly benefit through the purchase of extra educational resources and excursions. But beside the important fundraising – it was clear to me that this event is much more than simply raising money – it has become a very important part of the cultural fabric of this terrific school community. I must admit to some nerves being asked to
NSW Department of Education and Communities compare for this event but I had enormous fun and I enjoyed the experience for the very first time. It will certainly be an event I will be telling my principal colleagues about. It was great to see so many parents join us for the P&C morning tea in the auditorium. My sincere thanks to those hard working P&C members who helped organise the morning tea and to those who were kind enough to bake and prepare the amazing spread of food. I hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience here at the school today – especially those parents who were able to visit their child’s classroom to share in the fun of Education Week. We are indeed very lucky to live in a country that spends considerable amounts of taxes on our school systems. Sometimes it is easy to forget just how lucky we are as Australians, having the opportunity to attend school, mostly free of charge, to learn and grow with a quality first world education. Our students have so
many opportunities to reach their goals in life – whether that be through learning a trade or attendi ng a uni versi ty, or developing a career in business. I encourage all students to realise their potential by engaging with learning – and taking advantage of this first class educational system. Personal responsibility, determination, commitment and drive are all terms that come to mind when describing successful students – and every single one of our students can and will achieve if they are prepared to be an active participant as they develop and grow through the school system. Mums and dads – it is really important that your children hear this message often – from their teachers and their parents. Steve Wilkinson Principal (Rlvg)
