Dear Parents/Caregivers, This week we celebrated Education Week with a variety of special events occurring daily at Cowra Public School. Earlier in the week we welcomed Yalbillinga, Good Start and Carinya pre-school children for their first transition visits to our school. The children had a fantastic time joining in a library lesson with Mrs Oborn and were very excited about their visit to “big school”. Wednesday evening saw a wonderful showcase of Cowra talent at the combined schools Lachlan Valley Learning Community Spectacular. Cowra PS had almost 100 students take part in this show, with students involved in choir, dance, drama and band. Thank you to all who worked behind the scenes in putting on such a brilliant production and in particular to Mrs Pulling, Mrs Long, Mrs Oborn and Mrs Wright for their efforts in getting our choir and band students stage-ready. Thank you also to Cowra High staff Mrs Buckley, Mrs O’Dea and Mrs Rowston for working with our students as part of the combined school’s items. I’m sure all who attended enjoyed it just as much as those who were on stage! Today we invite all parents, grandparents and friends to our CPS Open Day! Primary classes will open their doors to visitors from 10-10:30am and Infants from 10:30-11:00am. This is a great opportunity for you to come along and see the amazing work happening in our school. Following Open Classrooms, parents are invited to join us for morning tea. The P&C will be selling delicious cakes and slices along with coffee and tea in the school hall. Following that, the Infants classes will be holding their annual Pedlars’ Parade in the hall – all families welcome! Tomorrow all students will attend a special performance at school called “The H-Team”. This live show focuses on a variety of wellbeing areas including resilience, teamwork, critical thinking, self-discipline and physical fitness. All children will attend this show free of charge thanks to a generous donation made by the P&C and the school. Every three years, NSW Public Schools are required to develop a new strategic School Plan which details specific goals and targets that each school aims to meet. We are at the beginning stages of developing our new school plan for 2018-2020. To ensure that the directions Cowra Public School takes are those which the school community sees as important, we are asking for your input! Attached to this week’s Newsletter is a backpack survey on which we are asking all parents to let us know the skills, knowledge or experiences you would like your child to have when they leave CPS in Year 6 and embark on their High School journey. These might be learning outcomes, values outcomes or experiences. You can write as many things as you like. Our students and staff are also being surveyed. When all sheets are returned we will analyse the responses and this should give us a strong idea on the directions that our whole school community see as important. This is a great opportunity for you to have a say in the future direction of our wonderful school. Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

V3‌..CRIME INVESTIGATION
On Wednesday 26 July 2017 Stage 3 students were confronted with a "CRIME SCENE" in the back room of the V3 classroom at the end of recess. They then received an instruction to go into the room later in the day as 'detectives' to investigate who had made such a MESS in the room and what had they done. They needed to investigate all the materials used and what CHANGES had taken place in the materials they observed. This is the Science and Technology unit of study for this term CHANGE DETECTIVES.

Cowra Public School—201802020 School Planning Survey! We are at the beginning stages of developing our new school plan for 2018-2020. On the backpack below, we would like you to write down the skills, knowledge or experience you would like YOUR CHILD to have when they leave CPS in Year 6 and embark on their High School journey. These might be learning outcomes (e.g. be able to read, use a computer, or play a musical instrument), values outcomes (e.g. confidence to speak in front of an audience or honesty) or experiences (sporting representation, leadership days or excursions). You can write as many things as you like! Our students and staff are also being surveyed. When all sheets are returned we will analyse the responses and this should give us a strong idea on the directions that our whole school see as important. This is a great opportunity for you to have a say in the future direction of our great school. Please return by the end of August. Kind regards, Jenny Lewis (Principal)
