Dear Parents/Caregivers, Excitement is building as our whole school production “Alice in Wonderland” is starting to take shape. To date we have over 130 students who have returned notes indicating their participation and we can’t wait for opening night on the 26th September! Publicity for “Alice” has been a focus over the past week and I congratulate all students from Kindergarten to Year 6, who entered into the poster and colouring in competition. There were a huge selection of entries and the judge had a very difficult time choosing the First Place and Highly Commended winners. Congratulations to Jennifer Thomas (Kindergarten), Trinity Workman (Stage 1), Portia Mansley (Stage 2) and Annabelle Sturgiss (Stage 3) who received first place in their Stage and were awarded two free tickets to the show and a big thank you to Mrs Hopkins for coordinating the competition.

NAPLAN ONLINE READINESS TESTING Federal, State and Territory Education Ministers have agreed that NAPLAN testing will be conducted online from 2019. As part of that process all NSW schools, across all sectors are conducting online readiness tests. In Week 6, Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete a NAPLAN style test on computers. Year 5 will do a writing test, and an omnibus test. Year 3 will only complete an omnibus test, which is a combination of the writing conventions and reading test. These tests will not be marked. The purpose of the tests is to assess the capability of the individual school, the department and the system itself to conduct testing in this format. It also provides the students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with an online test format. Students require earphones to complete the omnibus test. The school has a supply of headsets, but we are also asking students to provide their own headsets. Students will be briefed about the tests and be provided the opportunity to complete sample test questions in class time. You can access more information from https:// www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment or contact Sheridan Oborn at the school.

CPS Paper Plane Challenge Finals
The identified day for the finals on Tuesday 21 August started as a lovely clear windless day so we all gathered outside and as more and more classes gathered so the wind kept increasing! It was decided to still go ahead as this was more about the fun and inclusion of all the students than the winning. So the aeronautical engineers set to work and created a wide range of interesting designs and one by one they got their turn to launch and fly, which was carefully videoed and timed by the teachers. The distance results were unfortunately a bit disappointing due to the wind interference, but the fun had by all was quite obvious with the amount of cheering and applause each flight got. The serious flyers were offered a second opportunity on Thursday 23 Aug to fly their craft in the sports centre and some better distances were achieved by some but the height of the roof presented a restriction, so luckily the day outside was quite still and windless so a third opportunity was given to fly under the COLA and here the top 4 craft reached the minimum standards and over giving us our Paper Plane Champions for 2018. 1st : McKay Sullivan 20.42m 2nd : Brodie Fiene 18.97m 3rd : Toby Roylance 18.49m 4th : Zander De Wet 18.27m
