FOR YOUR DIARY September

Dear Parents/Caregivers, Thank you to all students and staff who attended last week’s School Spectacular Social! The theme ‘Chase away the Winter Blues’ was very well supported and both Infants and Primary children enjoyed a fun-filled night dancing and hanging out with their friends. Thank you to the parents who assisted with running the canteen and to the children for their excellent behaviour! The social raised around $930 and all proceeds will go to the Schools Spectacular fundraising efforts. Speaking of fundraising, don’t forget if you haven’t ordered your CPS Cook Book yet, orders close this Friday 8th September with final payment due Friday 15th September. For just $20 you get a beautiful colour cookbook with over 100 recipes submitted by families from our school. Just call or drop into the office and see Mrs Murray or Mrs Williams to place an order – what a great idea for a Christmas gift!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week we were very excited to welcome pre-school students and educators from Yalbillinga, Carinya and Nurture One as part of our Kindergarten Transition program. Our visitors had a lovely time visiting the classrooms and participating in a variety of learning activities with our current Kinder students. We look forward to welcoming pre-schoolers from Good Start next week. If any CPS parents have Kindergarten enrolment forms, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send these into the office so that we can add your child’s details to our Kinder class list, ready for next year. This week students in Infants and Primary have been busy rehearsing for the “Cowra’s Got Talent” Talent Quest which will be held next Thursday evening starting at 6pm. Tickets are available from the school office and are just $2 a head. Mrs Hopkins and Mrs Pulling have done a wonderful job in organising the program and there is a wide variety of talent on show, so be sure not to miss out on an excellent night of entertainment! Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in the NAPLAN Online Readiness tests. This is being administered in all schools over a five week period and is a test-run to see how our school’s internet and computer systems cope with the increased web traffic. Mrs Oborn and Mr Murray will be coordinating our school’s participation in this activity. Parents – please note; your child will not receive a report on their results from the readiness test, this is merely a checking mechanism to see how our computer systems hold up. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the NAPLAN Online test, please contact the school. Just a reminder that tonight’s P&C Meeting will be held in the school staffroom starting at 6pm – all parents welcome! NOW TAKING PAYMENTS!!! Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

Western Region Athletics Friday the 1st of September Cowra Public had 21 athletes travel to Dubbo to compete in the Western Region Athletics. The attitude and commitment of the students was demonstrated in the lead up with regular training - some training up to 3 times a week and after school! A range of good results were achieved with Brodie Fiene and Imogen Chambers off to state in October! 6 students made it through their heats and into finals and narrowly beaten. Excellent work to those students who achieved PB’s in their specialty events - we aim to knock those out of the park next year! Congratulations to all the student athletes (and their parents!) who travelled to Dubbo. You should be proud of your achievements and keep up the great level of commitment shown towards your sporting ventures, you have made Cowra Public School extremely proud.
