Cowra Public School NEWS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents As the year comes to a close for 2015 I would like to reflect on the outstanding achievements attained by the students and staff throughout the course of our very busy school year. Firstly I would like to recognise the ongoing effort of all staff members at Cowra Public School, who consistently go way beyond what is expected by the Department of Education in providing the highest level of academic instruction and nurturing for all students within our school. The joy that the teachers experience is evident when they are willing to give so much of their own time in preparing quality lessons and experiences for children, in order to enhance their learning. Secondly our children benefit and reflect their teachers’ efforts by continually achieving academic growth that far surpasses state expectation and by demonstrating our strength through our PBL expectations of Being Safe, On Task and Respectful. This week the school could easily be

NSW Department of Education heading towards the summer break by slowing down, but the school hasn’t drawn breath with the Year 6 farewell evening being held on Monday. This event saw Year 5 sending off Year 6 with a semi- formal evening that the children dressed up for. They enjoyed a meal followed by bush dancing and the traditional Year 6 cake. The Stage 3 teachers all commended the parents of the children for their strong support and contribution to the wonderful food provided. Following this we have had on-going PBL professional learning for teachers on Wednesday ensuring our staff are fully up to date with PBL practises for next year. Today of course we have held the Primary minor awards which highlight the academic class achievements and sporting achievements of individuals and students in teams. This event will lead into our major assemblies that are being held tomorrow (Friday), starting with the Infants Assembly commencing at 9.30 followed by the Primary Assembly at 11.30am. All assemblies welcome parent attendance and we hope that many take the opportunity to come along. Also happening tomorrow will be the Summer Raffle draw that will see the lucky winners taking home the BBQ, Ski Pack or Esky Pack. Tickets will be available right up till the draw and can be purchased near the door. If you still have tickets please ensure you have both the tickets and money returned to the school by Friday morning. Each year the school has been driving attendance as a focus and this year we have been delighted with the strong response by the students and their parents in ensuring their child is given every opportunity for success by being at school. This year we have several students who have 100% attendance, which has not gone unnoticed. Next week our school will hold class parties on Monday or Wednesday and teachers will instruct students on class
arrangements. On Monday the school will also be holding the traditional staff vs student T-Ball game. Mrs Hilton has been training the staff with military drills consisting of hill runs, calisthenics and of course pronunciation lessons to ensure that the unbeaten record of the staff winning stays intact for 2015. Good luck to the Year 6 students for the game but the teachers look confident. Our school will be holding a Year 6 Graduation ceremony at 2pm on Tuesday 15 December , in the Auditorium to congratulate our departing students. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours. I would like to thank the support of our P&C and the Cowra Public School Community throughout 2015 and look forward to seeing everyone back in 2016. The tireless ladies in our school office need a special mention as often they are the face of the school while they also assist the Principal, the teachers, the support staff and of course, the students. I am not joking in saying they keep the school ticking. I would also like to thank the effort of the School Learning Support Officers at the school as these ladies assist the children immensely in their learning each and every day. Another thanks is needed for Lisa Willis in the Canteen who works to ensure every child is welcomed with a smile and provided with a range of choices of healthy food options on a daily basis. I hope everyone has an enjoyable time over the Christmas break with their families and I hope everyone stays safe by wearing a helmet if riding a bike or motorbike and keeping an eye on traffic if they are near roads. Next year our school will have several new improvements that we are looking forward to. Enjoy the week.
