- competitive games of cricket against other schools from the region. They are hoping to learn some great sporting skills.

School commences at 9.10am School finishes at 3.15pm Students are not supervised before 8.45am

During the week our children have been working hard in all classrooms with the school moving towards the assessment and reporting period of the year. This is always a very exciting time of the year with the results of student growth becoming increasingly evident through testing and benchmarking. Already reports of significant improvement and growth is being identified which is delightful. Last week the Adventure Club children in stage 2 and 3 attended the day near Orange. The children all enjoyed the experience of walking to the peak of a mountain followed by walking to a waterfall and having the thrill of entering a cave behind the fall through a secret passage, then walking through the falling water. Later the children travelled further and donned hard hats while venturing through a cave system, exploring the cave by crawling through wormholes and climbing rock edges. At the conclusion of the day the children were exhausted and very dirty but all smiling. This event highlights the emphasis the school places on attendance and work ethic that are the two criteria in student selection. Over the three years that the Adventure Club has been running over 180 students have had the opportunity to attend. Today the school again hosted the 2016 kindergarten students for orientation with all children seeming to be getting more comfortable coming to big school. Our teachers are very excited with the enrolment of such wonderful children and we are looking forward to their arrival in 2016.

Next week on Friday, Cowra Public School will be involved in the Corroboree being held at the Corridor Project. Twenty students will attend representing our school in what promises to be a unique experience looking at Aboriginal culture and experiences. On Saturday, 31 October the main Corroboree will be held with huge numbers coming from across the country with strong representation from the local area. Next year the school will be looking to introduce two new items to the school uniform for the children. These will include a school bag and school sunglasses. Currently the school is investigating through several companies the purchase of school bags that are very sturdy and have an expected life span of 6 years. The sunglasses are looking to reduce the UV concern towards children’s eyes. Both items will be sold as a non- profit cost by the school with an expected purchase price to be around $40 for the school bag and $10 for the sunglasses. The sunglasses come in three sizes and have the provision to be personally named as well as coming in a very sturdy case that can be attached to the student bag. These items should be available at the school soon and will able to be purchased through the front office. Bradley Tom The Adventure Club Group

Also today we have a very lucky group of students travelling to Young to be involved in a Dream Cricket Day being held by the Rotary Club of Cowra. Mrs Eldridge and Mrs Hopkins have taken their classes today to play non

SCHOOL SPECTACULAR 2015 MATINEE PERFORMANCE Cowra Public School has been selected to be part of the 2015 School Spectacular being held in November. Thirteen of our girls have been chosen to participate in the spectacular on Friday, 27 November and Saturday, 28 November. The spectacular will be holding a matinee performance on Friday, 27 November for school children. As our dance program has over sixty five boys and girls participating at the moment, we would like to give our dance students and Stage 3 students the opportunity to experience the spectacular. The school has purchased tickets for the Friday matinee performance at a reduced rate of $25.00 per ticket and have offered these to the dance students first and now to Stage 3 students. The school is covering the cost of the bus to and from Sydney. The bus will depart Cowra Public School at 6.00am and return at approximately at 8.00pm. As the bus has a capacity to hold fifty five students it will be the first fifty five students who return their permission note along with the $25.00 ticket cost to the school that will get to go.

CANTEEN NEWS! With the warmer weather upon us, we will be trialling new healthy snacks for recess starting Week 2. No hot food will be available at recess and we will be fazing out JJ’s and Snackatas. The snacks will include : Apricot balls Biscuits Muffins (sweet and savoury) Cups with fruit, custard, jelly and yoghurt These will all be made fresh at the canteen. It will also depend on time and availability of volunteers to what we will be able to make. At the moment prices will vary from 50c to $2.00. There will also be changes to the lunch menu, with monthly specials and meal deals. If anyone has suggestions or able to assist, this would be very much appreciated. Our canteen offers affordable and healthy food for students and staff. All profits in our canteen are spent on projects within our school. We desperately need volunteers to assist in running the canteen. Please consider spending one day a month or term volunteering. It is a great way to keep in touch with your children and their friends. Volunteer assistance is needed from 9.00am until 2.00pm daily OR perhaps 9.00am until 11.00am to make the lunches. If you can assist please see me in the canteen. Lisa Willis Canteen Supervisor
