Dear Parents/Caregivers, Welcome to Term 4! I trust that all CPS families had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the beautiful spring-time weather. Students returned to school this week ready and raring to go for our final term of the year. The Term 4 calendar is filling up fast with excursions, Schools Spectacular, Kinder Orientation, Swimming Scheme and of course all the wonderful end of year celebrations! I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs Mandy Townsend who will be teaching JM2 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and welcome all of our new families who have joined the CPS school community this term.
Term 4 is a busy time in all schools, particularly with staffing, and we will be working hard to fill all vacant classroom teacher and administration positions prior to the commencement of the 2018 school year. Some of these positions will be filled 19 Infants Assembly - 1.45pm through the merit selection process and others will be through the Department’s 23 AECG meeting - AGM - 2pm transfer system. I am pleased to inform the school community that two new staff members will be transferring to Cowra Public School next year. Mrs Bronwyn NOVEMBER Johnson from Mulyan Public School has been appointed to our school as a classroom teacher and Mrs Amanda Taylor from Bribbaree Public School has 2 Whole School Assembly - 2pm been appointed as one of our School Administration Officers. We look forward to welcoming both ladies to CPS in 2018. 16 Infants Assembly - 1.45pm Primary Assembly - 2.30pm Last term two of our students – Brody Fiene and Imogen Chambers were 30 Whole School Assembly -2pm successful in qualifying for the State PSSA Athletics Carnival. Stage 3 T20 Blast Cricket Day
2
Last term the majority of stage 3 students took part in Cricket NSW T2O blast day. Cowra Public fielded one competitive girl’s side and one competitive boy’s side, while the reminder of students played in the non-competitive competition. The majority of schools around the area participated, St Raphaels, Mulyan, Cowra Public, Canowindra Public, St Edwards, Grenfell Public. CPS competitive girl’s side was the big improver on the day, winning three games and losing two, finishing third in their pool, well done girls. Our competitive Boys side did the same as our girls finishing third with three wins and two loses. Our non-competitive teams had a fantastic day, our boys spent the day learning about the skills and rules of cricket and having several close matches in their pools. The stars of the day were the CPS girls, we had one team go through undefeated, winning all five games. Two other sides only lost one game, congratulations girls. A big thank you to Cricket NSW and all participating schools as well as Cowra High School students for umpiring on the day. It was mentioned by several staff and helpers from other schools on the day that the sportsmanship and behaviour of the Stage 3 Cowra Public students was outstanding. I would have to agree, well done CPS Stage 3.
OUTDOOR LEARNING DAY On Monday 18th September, N3 and Q2/3 enjoyed an outdoor learning day. A global initiative aimed at experiencing and celebrating the learning opportunities that our environments provide us. To begin our day we took part in a treasure hunt in the playground that helped us form ideas for our writing. After recess we ventured down to River Park where we began our Math lesson. We were split into groups and given a task to create string art. To do this we needed to use pegs and create a circle in the ground. Using wool we chose a pattern and began to create our art, wrapping it around each peg and working together to make a good design. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch before having a play at the park during lunch. After lunch, we had the choices of drawing, transient art, stick designing or team building activities. The team building required us to work together to use rope to create a way to move from one tree to another without touching the ground. This took a lot of concentration and cooperation. We had a great time at our Outdoor Learning Day.
