YOU ARE INVITED….
This Friday 3rd November at 10.30 Stage 1, accompanied by Miss Gardoll and Mr Murray, will be reading a Dreamtime story at the Neighbourhood Centre. Parents and community members are invited to come and watch and enjoy morning tea.
This week two of our Year 6 students Tahlee-Pearl Beckett and Jake Roberts represented Cowra Public School at the State NAIDOC Public Speaking competition in Dubbo. Tahlee-Pearl and Jake reached the State level after placing in the top two teams in both the Lachlan and Regional competitions held earlier in the year. The topic; “Our Languages Matter”, was also the theme of this year’s NAIDOC week celebrations and Tahlee-Pearl and Jake once again, delivered their four-minute speech with great poise and humour! Their solid preparation and flawless delivery received many compliments from the adjudicator and they were named STATE Champions! Congratulations to Tahlee-Pearl and Jake and their amazing public speaking coach Mrs Trisha Long, on a fantastic effort and result! A huge thank you must also go to Mr Dean Murray and his team for organising such a wonderful competition again this year. On behalf of the students and staff I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr Samuel Downing and Miss Harriet Condon who are undertaking their teaching practicums at Cowra Public School. Mr Downing and Miss Condon are both students from Charles Sturt University and are undertaking their Bachelor of Education studies. Over the next few weeks, Mr Downing will be working with Mr Garlick in G3 and Miss Condon will be with Mrs Pulling in S1. We hope they enjoy their time at Cowra PS! Our third Kindergarten Orientation visit was held on Tuesday and it was great to see our 2018 Kinders having fun, making new friends and becoming more familiar with “big school”! Our final Kinder Orientation session will be held next Tuesday 7th November from 9:30-11:00am. Similarly our Year 6’s will also be attending their full-day transition to Cowra High School on Tuesday 14th November and this will be followed by the traditional Year 6/7 social. Information about the Year 6 Transition Day is attached to this week’s Newsletter. During the week we have had a team of painters in the school to paint the interior of the Fitness Centre. This is part of our school’s maintenance work and over the coming weeks painting will also be completed in all of the Stage 3 classrooms. In addition, the roof on G Block (Stage 3 area) will also be replaced and the exterior window frames re-painted. With the volume of work being undertaken, it is expected that there will be some disruptions to daily activities, however we will be working in consultation with the tradespeople to minimise this as much as possible. On Wednesday we celebrated "World Teachers' Day". The teachers were spoilt by having cakes made for them as a sign of appreciation. Staff would love to thank those parents and students who brought cakes and the P&C for organising the wonderful surprise! The cakes were absolutely delicious and the gesture was greatly appreciated by all members of staff. The ongoing support shown by the families of our school is one of the many things that make Cowra Public School such a wonderful place to work! Just a reminder, our whole school assembly is on this afternoon starting at 2:00pm in the Hall. All families are more than welcome! Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

NAIDOC State Challenge Winners!!
Last Monday was the State Finals for the NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge and our school’s team of Tahlee-Pearl Beckett and Jake Roberts, left on Sunday afternoon with Mrs Long and Mrs Lewis for Dubbo. All the finalists in this year's competition were very lucky to camp overnight at Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo prior to the State Finals. This meant sleeping under the stars and a few close encounters of the animal kind in the evening and early morning. This year, the teams in the state final came from Bulli, Tarrawanna (Wollongong), Orange, Sturt (Wagga) and Griffith North Public Schools, and once again, the standard of competition was very high. Tahlee-Pearl and Jake confidently delivered an impressive and flawless speech which secured them first place and the state championship. Both these students have competed in this competition over the years, and it was wonderful to see how much they had improved and their hard work rewarded. Well done! A huge thank you to the students and their families for the hours of practice they have put in to succeed at this level, and to Mr Dean Murray for his organisation of this very worthwhile competition.

Team B (coached by Miss Dunk) also played exceptionally well scoring 5 tries to 10 from the opposing teams over all. We all had a great day and all improved our skills throughout the day! ~~~NIT BLITZ~~~ There has been a recurring problem with head lice within the school. We appreciate that it is a very difficult problem to deal with and it becomes extremely expensive for all concerned if the problem is not treated quickly. Please check your child’s hair. If they have head lice, the treatment shampoo can be purchased from the Chemist or supermarket, ordinary shampoo will not solve the problem. Remember to wash all linen in hot water, and brushes and combs should be washed in the medicated shampoo. Hair should be treated again 10 days after first treatment. According to school policy, your child should not return to school until treated and ALL eggs have been removed from the hair. Thankyou for your co-operation
