***CHANGE OF DATE***

P & C Meeting Wednesday, 22 November

6pm

It’s hard to believe that we have reached the half-way point in the term – the last five weeks seemed to have flown by! Staff and students are beginning to look forward to all the exciting activities and events coming up as we head towards the end of the year! These include the Stage 3 excursion, Year 6 Graduation, Schools Spectacular, Year 6 Farewell, Cowra High School Transition and Social, Year 2 Swimming Scheme, Cowra Ballet Concert, Class Parties, Bike Day, Presentation, Assemblies…the list goes on and on! With lots of extra-curricular activities on the agenda it is important that families are aware of when notes and payments are due and the weekly Newsletter and Cowra Public School Facebook page are a great way to keep up-to-date with coming events – if you haven’t ‘liked’ our Facebook page yet, please make sure you do! On behalf of the staff and students, I would like to congratulate Mrs Allison Williams who has been appointed, through the merit selection process, as our permanent School Administrative Manager. Allison’s outstanding organisational skills, understanding of school finance and administration systems and warm and welcoming manner make her the perfect candidate for this very important position in our school. Allison has been working in this role in a relieving capacity for the past few months, and we are delighted that she will now fill this position on a permanent basis. Well done Allison!

Our final Kinder Orientation visit was held on Tuesday. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know our 2018 Kindergarten students and their families and we look forward to seeing them all again next year. A big thank you goes out to Mrs Tracey McFarland for her co-ordination of this year’s Kindergarten Transition and Orientation program – I’m sure all of our new students and their families are feeling a little more relaxed and a lot more confident about starting ‘big school’ in 2018. Today eight of our Year 5 students presented their Captain's speeches to Stage 2 and Stage 3 students, teachers and parents. While each of their speeches was very individual, they all spoke about the qualities of a good leader and how proud they were of their school. Students and teachers will vote for the 2018 Cowra Public School Captains and we wish all students the very best of luck.

Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

VISIT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE TO READ A DREAMTIME STORY

On the 3rd of November 21 very excited year 1 students walked over to the Cowra Neighbourhood Centre to present their favourite Dreamtime story to the residents of Cowra. G1 had been looking at Dreamtime stories and the important messages they tell us. The class decided they would recreate and retell the story ‘How the birds got their colours. With practise and a big smile they were all ready for our time to shine and retell the story. Each student in G1 contributed to the book that was created and given to the neighbourhood centre. It was written, illustrated and retold by G1. All the students were extremely proud of their hard work and thoroughly enjoyed the morning.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION……………. YEAR 4 ROAD SAFETY PRGRAM - TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER Many children ride bicycles, yet have little idea of basic cycling skills and safety, either off or on the roads. Each year children’s lives are lost in cycling accidents. Many of the accidents do not involve another moving vehicle and could be prevented through improved knowledge, skills and attitude. As part of our road safety program, we are conducting a half-day session of cycling activities at school for Year 4. To gain full benefit from the program, children with bicycles and Standards Association of Australia approved cycling safety helmets should bring them to school on Tuesday 14th November. A helmet must be worn in the interests of safety and it is now the law. Children should try to arrange to borrow a helmet for the day if they do not own one. All helmets brought to school should have the child’s name on them. These basic cycling skills and safety lessons DO NOT INCLUDE CYCLING ON THE ROAD. All lessons will be conducted in the school playground. Their aim is to improve cycling safety. Please check your child’s bicycle for safety and discuss the way in which you would like your child to transport the bicycle to school. Parental help in the supervision and instruction of children would be most gratefully appreciated. The course will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Children who are not able to get a bike to school for this day are encouraged to make arrangements to share a friend’s bike in order to participate in the bike safety activities. Albert Murray Bike Safety Co-ordinator
