Term 4, Week 7
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents What a busy week we have had with many of our students travelling around the state to various activities. Stage 2 and 3 students who were selected to be a part of this year's "Schools Spectacular" have had a wonderful time in Sydney with Mrs Cobcroft and Mrs Long. Amongst the many hours of rigorous rehearsals, the students have enjoyed sampling the city life with a swim at Manly beach, a ride on the Ferry and the chance to explore the city centre. All of their hard work will be put to the test during two performances on Friday and Saturday at Sydney Olympic Park. We wish them all the best as they perform with over 2000 other dancers! What an incredible experience! Stage 3 are currently exploring our nation's capital as part of their 3 day/2 night excursion to Canberra. Yesterday they visited the War Memorial and Questacon Science Centre and today they are off to the Dinosaur Museum and the Australian Institute of Sport. With so many exciting activities planned I am sure they will have plenty of stories to share when they return tomorrow afternoon. Just a reminder that the buses are due back at school at approximately at 4:15pm. Thank you to the staff - Mrs Cobcroft, Mrs Long, Mrs Hilton, Mrs Eldridge, Mr Garlick and Mr Duncombe - for giving up their time with their families to organise and take our students on these wonderful excursions. It is greatly appreciated!

LAST DAY FOR STUDENTS
During a thunderstorm last week we lost one of the large trees situated near the Infants sandpit. This tree provided welcome shade in the hotter months and greatly added to the aesthetic appeal of the playground. In the blink of an eye, Richard (Mork) Ryan, Mr Ryan's father stepped in and donated a brand new crab -apple tree to go in its place! Thank you to Richard for his generosity and to Mr Ryan who did a great job with the planting! Tomorrow sees the end to our annual School Swimming Scheme. Students in Year 2 and H123 have been attending learn-to-swim lessons for the past two weeks and have made excellent improvements in their swimming ability and water confidence. Learning to swim is a vital life-saving skill and NSW Sport and Recreation are offering learn to swim classes for all ages from the 9th-19th January 2017 at the Cowra Pool. Just go to the NSW Office of Sport and Recreation website to register. This morning our community and parent helpers were invited to attend a special morning tea as a token of thanks, on behalf of all the students and staff at Cowra Public School. We are very grateful for the ongoing support we receive from our fabulous school community. Have a great week‌ Kind Regards, Jenny Lewis
CONTACTING THE SCHOOL Administration Office Hours:
Stage 2 students had the opportunity on Wednesday to participate in a "Digi-Ed" workshop which focused on the skills of clay-mation and digital animation. This workshop allowed groups of students to use the stopmotion/claymation process, to story board, animate, edit and burn their movies onto a DVD. In addition to these skills, students were required to work collaboratively, to communicate effectively and to cooperate with one another in order to end up with a finished product. Having seen the quality of their work, I am sure we have some future animators in our midst!

YEAR 4 ROAD SAFETY PRGRAM - NEW DATE - TUESDAY 29TH NOV Many children ride bicycles, yet have little idea of basic cycling skills and safety, either off or on the roads. Each year children’s lives are lost in cycling accidents. Many of the accidents do not involve another moving vehicle and could be prevented through improved knowledge, skills and attitude. As part of our road safety program, we are conducting a half-day session of cycling activities at school for Year 4. To gain full benefit from the program, children with bicycles and Standards Association of Australia approved cycling safety helmets should bring them to school on Tuesday 29th November. The helmet must be worn in the interests of safety and it is now the law. Children should try to arrange to borrow a helmet for the day if they do not own one. All helmets brought to school should have the child’s name on them. These basic cycling skills and safety lessons DO NOT INCLUDE CYCLING ON THE ROAD. playground. Their aim is to improve cycling safety.
All lessons will be conducted in the school
Please check your child’s bicycle for safety and discuss the way in which you would like your child to transport the bicycle to school. Parental help in the supervision and instruction of children would be most gratefully appreciated. The course will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Children who are not able to get a bike to school for this day are encouraged to make arrangements to share a friend’s bike in order to participate in the bike safety activities. The students will investigate the plants and animals in the environment on the riverbanks and in the water, and will spend some time discussing how the local aboriginal people used the river sustainably, and how we can maintain the health of the river. The students will also be involved in planting some trees in the area. During follow up lessons at school the students will write a fieldwork report using the geographical information collected on the day. Students are to wear comfortable clothes e.g. shorts and tshirt (no singlet tops) and closed-in shoes for the day. They will need to bring recess and enough drinks for the day.
