The students will be involved in collecting any rubbish/litter that may be lying around, this will take approximately half an hour and will be held in the school grounds. The “Ponies” Class News ‘The Ponies’ have had a very exciting week. We started our Literacy rotation groups with some of our lovely mums coming in to help, which was very exciting. All ‘The Ponies’ are working very hard during our Literacy sessions and the kindy students are learning to move between activities very well, they should be extremely proud of themselves. I would love to set up a free writing centre for students during literacy rotation groups and would love any old or unused cards, envelopes, writing paper etc. you may have laying around taking up space in your drawers. I would love to teach the students’ about old fashioned snail mail and I think receiving a letter in the mail would be a great incentive to get their writing and drawing juices flowing. Even a little note with a question from home in their lunchbox will be exciting for students to write a special reply to take home for mum/dad/carers. Maths has been very interesting this week as we have explored the attributes of 2D shapes. On Tuesday we went for a 2D shape hunt around the school. Not only did we see lots of different shapes we noticed that some shapes we saw a lot of and some we didn’t see at all. Ask your ‘Pony’ what shape they saw the most. I think the students highlight this week has been 2D shape making. If you are lucky enough to walk past ‘The Ponies’ classroom window you will see some of the amazing creations the students have made. It was a lot of fun and ‘The Ponies’ are very creative when it comes to designing and making pictures out of 2D shapes.

The “Stock Horses” Class News The Combined Small School’s Swimming Carnival last Friday in Cowra was a great getting to know you occasion for all the students and staff of the surrounding district. I would like to congratulate all the Holmwood students on their excellent sportsmanship, manners and exemplary behaviour. Well done everyone! Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam to the best of their ability. Fantastic effort! Thank you to all the parents and friends who came along to support our students and for all your help with supervision. We really appreciate your help. Last Tuesday I attended the Principal’s Network Meeting in Orange and the students had a wonderful day with Mrs Wood. She said that they were the best kids that she has taught this year. I’m very proud of the Stockhorse Class. The focus in Mathematics this week has to been using the jump strategy for addition. We have also revisited 3D shapes and revising their names and properties. We made a Cube Mobile to help us rehearse the number of faces, vertices and edges that a cube and a rectangular prism have. In addition we have been concentrating on using the friends of ten and the jump strategies. In English we have been exploring stories, learning more about nouns and punctuation especially using Capital Letters. All students are reading their own Giggler books and really enjoying the stories and associated activities.
In PD/H all stages added the Thalamus, Hypothalamus and Corpus Collosum to their bank of brain parts. Stage 1 made a fantastic paper chipped brain mural.

The “Mustangs” Class News Congratulations to all of the children who attended the Smalls Schools Annual Swimming Carnival at Cowra on Friday and also to the students who progressed to District on Tuesday. What a busy week you have all had!! I have heard both days were great and all students were enthusiastic and competitive. We are waiting to hear if anybody has made it through to Western. In English, we have been focusing on simple sentence structure and creating sentences which make sense. The students are continuing to read their set texts and answer related comprehension questions. In writing, we have been developing our skills and knowledge of narratives. We looked at the varying plots which can be used in a narrative and the students began planning their own narratives. In handwriting, each student attempted to write a sentence which contained each letter of the alphabet in it. After the voting process, Akiko’s sentence was determined the winner. (Despite some beliefs, this had nothing to do with the mention of the Sydney Roosters in the sentence.) Maths this week has been centred around length. We have explored perimeter, centimetres, millimetres and metres. On Thursday, the students worked collaboratively in groups to work out the perimeter of set objects around the school. The students worked well with one another to solve the problems. Another huge improvement in the Monster Maths Challenge this week with Matt Russell knocking a huge 54 seconds of his personal best time!!! In the 4/5/6 classroom, we have started practising our Schools Spectacular audition song. They are sounding quite harmonious. We will continue to perfect this in the coming week. All students will need to be in full school uniform on the taping day. (To be decided) In Science, Stage 2 explored shadows and the effect the light (or sun) has on the direction and length on it. The students explored the changes made when light was
