black in colour. I wonder what we will find out next? ‘The Ponies’ have loved their swimming lessons on Friday afternoon. It is wonderful to see how much water confidence they have. This week we will see how well we can float, and if we can wet Cherie when she is watching us practice our kicking. Today we had a lovely surprise as we had the Golf Pro Nathan come and give us a lesson on golfing.

Thank you to our volunteers who have generously given their time to ensure the students are able to purchase lunch each Friday by way of a meal deal. The meal deal for tomorrow 10th of March is Pulled Beef in a bun with gravy, a popper and an iceblock or cinnamon, banana and honey Muffin - $6.00

K/1 Class News What a wonderful week we have had in ‘The Ponies’ class. This week we have been looking at the passing of time and how time is measured, minutes, hours, days weeks, months, seasons and years. We are working really hard to understand how to read clocks and calendars. Our literacy rotation groups are working extremely well as students are developing their independent and cooperative working skills. A big thank you to all Parents/Carers who donated stationary, cards and envelopes etc. for our free writing rotation station. I am sure in the future you will be receiving some lovely and interesting little notes from your ‘Pony’. A big thank you to Ivy Mason’s Grandmother who sent in 2 books from her childhood for us to explore during our history session, ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’. It was very interesting to hear students compare the books they read today and what they look like to those from the past. WOW, we have been finding out lots of interesting facts about insects during our ‘Gone Buggy’ unit of work. We have found out that Ladybugs can have 0 to 20 spots and they can be orange, red, pink or

2/3 Class News Another hectic week has kept the Stockhorse students very busy. A big welcome to Rachel Newell and Naomi Lawler who joined Jackie King and Sally Ryals as classroom volunteers in the Stockhorse Classroom. Your support is greatly appreciated and certainly makes group work run smoothly in the literacy and numeracy sessions.

The focus in Mathematics this week has been multiplication. We are beginning to learn our tables so it would be great if the students received some help at home. This week we concentrated on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. We are using these tables to work out multiplication number sentences. We enjoyed using real life situations to make this learning purposeful. We revised the names and properties of 3D objects finding real life things around the school that match the 3D objects. In English we are still investigating how narratives are structured. The students have discovered the parts of a narrative by studying quality literature. We are learning more about Proper Nouns and still working on using Capital Letters. The phoneme for the week is the /ai/ sound which has 8 graphemes. No wonder kids struggle with learning how to spell!! An important skill that we have been practicing is ‘hearing’ each phoneme in words. All students are enjoying reading individual Giggler books and completing the associated activities. In PD/H all stages have started to do a unit of work on being friendly and mindful of how our actions and words can affect others. Stage 2 and 3 completed an activity using crumpled paper to demonstrate that words do really hurt others and that hurtful words can never be completely erased. Early Stage1 and Stage1 completed an activity on ‘I Love Myself’ to reinforce that everyone is beautiful, wonderful, clever, unique and special. This was a confidence boosting activity. We visited the Cowra Regional Art Gallery for a Creative and Practical Arts excursion yesterday. We were fascinated with the portraits that were part of the Archibald Prize 2016 Regional Tour. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students and staff to be able to study quality artworks and hopefully the students will use some of the techniques and mediums in their own creations. We recommend this wonderful exhibition to everyone. Go along and be amazed!!!.

Have a great week, Cheers, Mrs Pagett and the Stockhorse students.

4/5/6 Class News In English, the students have begun to edit and publish their narratives. The students have a good grasp on the structure of a narrative. This has allowed for some creative and very interesting complications to be written. We will have these all completed early next week. In reading, 4/5/6 continue to read the selected novel and answer the related the comprehension questions. During this time, students can either read with peers or independently. They also have an opportunity to read to me. The reading and comprehension of texts encompasses many aspects. We focus on being able to retell the story as well as answer some set questions. The answers to the questions may be directly found in the reading, be hidden in the text or come from the reader’s own knowledge of the theme. In the 4/5/6 classroom we are developing our skills within all of these areas, reading for meaning. In Maths, the Mustangs have settled well into group rotation activities. In Week 7, the focus area has been Division. The students have used a range of strategies to solve mathematical problems in their text. Some strategies include using concrete materials, such as counters, using time tables sheets, skip counting, whiteboards to record thinking and algorithms. The big discovery was the relationship between multiplication and division and how we can use multiplication to solve division. Over the coming weeks, I am hoping to strengthen multiplication skills in the 4/5/6 classroom. On Wednesday, we had a terrific excursion to the Cowra Art Gallery. Ms Perry from the Cowra Art Gallery discussed the selection criteria of the coveted Archibald Prize. The 2016 winner was portrait of Barry Humprhries. The artist won a tidy sum of $100000. The Packer Room prize winner, a portrait of George from MasterChef, won $3500. The students were given an opportunity to look at and appreciate the Archibald Prize collection. There was no stand out favourite in the 4/5/6 class, as we discovered we all liked different elements of the works. Tomorrow, the students will begin to plan their own portraits. There are many things to consider. Who will I paint? What material will I paint on? What painting

medium will I use? Which colours suit the mood and character of the subject? These are only some important elements of painting the perfect portrait. Next week, I will be taping the audition tape for the Schools Spectacular application. Can all students ensure they are full school uniform, please? If you have any questions about this, please contact the school via phone or email and I will endeavour to answer any questions. Until next week… Amylee Knight 4/5/6 Class Teacher

P&C Fundraiser Don’t forget the P&C’s first fundraiser for 2017 which was sent home last week. This fundraiser is in the form of a Pictureplate. Students will be designing and colouring their plate at school. You are also given the opportunity for siblings to participate by colouring in their designs at home and returning them to school. (There is a sample in the school office if anyone would like to call in and have a look). The designs will then be sent away to be made into 25cm food grade melamine plates which are dishwasher safe, BPA free and come with a 40 year quality guarantee. This is a great keepsake!! If you would like your child/ren to participate in this wonderful fundraiser please complete the order form and return to school, with payment, by Monday 13th of March. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Natalie Crutch P&C Secretary
