Term 2, Week 1 Wednesday, 26th April 2017 Make a Payment

Dear Parents, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that everyone had a relaxing enjoyable holiday and wonderful Easter. This term looks like being a very busy one with lots of academic, cultural and sporting events to take place, particularly in the first few weeks. With this newsletter is a copy of the calendar to help you plan and organise school events. There will undoubtedly be other activities that have to be scheduled and these can be added to it as they become known. School Development Day On Monday, the staff attended school and took part in some Professional Learning that included learning about the new Early Action for Success program that we have started this year and also some professional learning took place around the use of Google apps and how these could be used by both staff and children. Staff were also busy doing preparation for Term 2.

Thank you to all the children who represented our school at the ANZAC Day wreath laying and march held yesterday. On a very wet and fairly miserable morning, approximately 30 students readily came to the march proudly for our school. Unfortunately, due to the wet weather the service that normally follows the march had to be postponed. Thank you once again for the students who were great ambassadors for our school and to the parents who ensured that our school leaders had the opportunity to wear their

1st prize: Lynne Willson 2nd prize: Jodie Brien 3rd prize: Tia Smith 4th prize: Michelle Conlon Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and supported our school P&C. A special mention to Coles who generously donated towards the prizes.

new school blazers for the first time. They looked absolutely fantastic. Thank you, Mrs Beale for organising them. P&C Tonight is the April meeting for the P&C which is at 7pm in the staffroom. At the AGM which was held at the end of March, the P&C was left without a President and a Secretary. Both these positions were held over till the April meeting where they hopefully will be filled. Our P&C has a very important role in the school, not only in the fund raising that they do but also in representing the parent body at various functions and also being the parent voice in the organisation of various events and functions. Over the past years the P&C has been able to donate funds for items such as smartboards in every room, playground equipment including the climbing frames sports supplies, readers, music equipment, landscaping, classroom supplies and much, much more. Representatives of the P&C have also been able to attend functions such as the Governor’s visit, The Governor General’s visit, council functions and so on. The work that the P&C does is vital and important for all our students and without a president and secretary the P&C will ease to operate. Please come along and become involved. Also at tonight’s P&C meeting a discussion will be held about changing the sports uniform to something more contemporary. The meeting tonight will just be a discussion with the proposed changes put up. It will then be advertised and discussed over the next month and a vote will then take place at the May meeting. Primary Athletics Carnival This Friday, weather permitting, the Primary Athletics carnival will be held at River Park. All parents and friends are welcome to come along and cheer on the stars of the future. The carnival is a compulsory day for all primary students. A team to represent our school at the district carnival

to be held later this year will be selected from the carnival. We hope to see you at the carnival. Year 5 Opportunity Classes Information has been received at the school about selection procedures for Opportunity Class Placements in 2018. This information is for current Year 4 students. Further information can be obtained by contacting the school. Please note that there are NO opportunity classes for Year 5 in Cowra. The nearest classes I believe are in Orange or Bathurst.

John Smith Principal Wanted President and Secretary for the P&C Committee. The P&C provides valuable support and resources to our school and is a vital part of our school community. We are in danger of losing our P&C due to not having a President or Secretary. Without these positions being filled, the P&C cannot be formed. The job descriptions: President: chair meetings, coordinate committees & fundraising events, represent parent body at school functions and generally be the face of the P&C Secretary: take minutes of the meetings, handle correspondence and be a support for the president. Benefits: 

Knowing that you are making a difference to your child’s school.
