Term 2, Week 10 Wednesday, 29th June 2016
Dear Parents Welcome to the last week of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many, many parents and carers who have spent so much time assisting us in the classroom, on the playground, on the sports field, for excursions and in so many others ways. Without this high level of support and assistance, we would not be able to run the many successful programs that we do, field the very successful sports teams that we do or run the excursions that we are able to offer our students. I hope that everyone has a very relaxing and enjoyable winter break, that it gets a little bit warmer than what it has been and that we all come back refreshed and ready for a very busy term 3. Sport News Last week, several of our students travelled to different parts of the state to compete in State Knockouts. Six of our boys travelled to Wyong as part of the Western Open Rugby League team and had a very successful carnival. They were competitive in all their games and were the eventual winner of the Country Cup which is awarded to the most successful country region at the carnival. However, even bigger news is that Leroy Murray was selected in the State Squad to take part in the Australian Championships in Canberra early next term. Leroy was selected as a result of his outstanding efforts throughout the carnival. He is now in rare company as a state representative at schoolboy level. We look forward to not only hearing about how Leroy goes at this carnival but also to follow his progress into the future. Other representatives also performed well and were wonderful ambassadors for our school, their families and themselves. Congratulations Charlie, Ryan, Isaac, Tom and Jacob. Meanwhile, Kara Hinderager travelled to Albury to take part in the State Girls’ Hockey Knockout. In a great carnival, Western was placed fourth and beaten in the semi-finals by the eventual co winners of the carnival. Congratulations Kara on this wonderful effort.

NAIDOC Week This week our school is celebrating NAIDOC Week. Last Friday, 20 Year 5 Indigenous and Non Indigenous students travelled to Cowra Public School to meet up with representatives from all the other local schools for the official Flag Raising Ceremony to commence NAIDOC Week. On Thursday, at 9.30am we are holding our NAIDOC Week assembly for all K-6 students. Parents are more than welcome to com and join us. At this assembly, you will have the chance to see what our students have been doing for our NAIDOC celebrations. After the assembly the students will have the opportunity to take part in learning the Wiradjuri language. On Friday, (weather and grounds permitting) our students in Stage 3 will be taking part in traditional games against Cowra Public School. P&C Meeting The last P&C meeting for this term will be held tonight commencing at 6.30pm in the staff room in the administration block. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. Congratulations to the organisers of the Diamond Debutante Ball that was held last Friday night. It was a magnificent night and our co ordinators, Penny Smith, Beatrice Murray and Jo Densmore are to be congratulated for the smooth running of the evening. The debutantes and their partners all looked very elegant and made their parents/carers very proud.

Thank you to Mrs Johnson for her work in organising this event. The girls’ and boys’ touch football due to be played last Monday had to be postponed due to the poor weather and state of the fields. The theme for this year is Song Titles and they are asking for entrants to craft and sculpture with recycled materials around this theme.
