P u b l i c S c h o o l Term 2, Week 5

Wednesday, 24th May 2017 Make a Payment Dear Parents, The end of this week marks the halfway point of Term 2 and it is a great opportunity to look back at some of the wonderful things that have happened both inside and outside the classroom. Firstly, all the great learning that goes on in each classroom every day needs to be recognised. I am lucky enough to go into and out of classrooms right across the school and I am always amazed and proud of the work that is being done by students and staff. Students in classes today are doing things that we would not have even thought of 10 or even 5 years ago. The standard of work and the broad knowledge that the children have is amazing and something that we should all be proud of. Outside the classroom, we have had extra-curricular events taking place including plenty of sport. We have had a great deal of success in Rugby League (winners of the Peachey and Richardson Shields and still going strong in the PSSA Knockout), Netball (runner up in the Eastern Zone of the Western final) and our successful athletics and cross country carnival. We have had our Years 3 & 5 students sit for their NAPLAN assessments successfully and smoothly. Our wonderful Mother’s Day concert was a full house. The Stage 1 excursion ventured to Canberra with a lot of very excited and eager Stage 1 students. The Eisteddfod season has well and truly started with our choir and verse speaking groups having already performed and doing a marvellous job. Our choir was awarded Highly Commended and sang beautifully and our Verse Speaking group was awarded First Place. So all in all, a very busy start to the term. With the remainder of the term looking just as busy, we should be well and truly exhausted by 30th June! School Uniform With the change of seasons, we have noticed that there is a bit of mish mash of uniform appearing. Set out below are the requirements for our winter uniform: Boys: Grey pants, grey polo neck shirt, black polar fleece or black school jumper and black shoes. Girls: Red & grey checked

pinafore(K-4) skirt (5&6) white button up shirt, black fleece or black school jumper grey stockings & black shoes Sports/P.E. Uniform ( girls & boys): Black track suit pants, grey polar fleece, white polo shirt & joggers. Black (boys) red (girls) shorts can be worn under track pants. As well as this, children who have represented school sport and Western Region can wear Western PSSA or State PSSA Clothing on Fridays only. We have noticed over the last couple of weeks a whole range of non uniform items appearing. These include and should not be worn: non school jumpers/sweatshirts, Cowra Magpie football shorts, black leggings and joggers when P.E. or sport is not on. Please help us with this as our students look spectacular when they are all in uniform and it make us very proud to be part of a great school. Please make sure all clothing is clearly marked with child’s name on it.

Sport Good luck to the boys’ and girls’ hockey team who will be playing against Middleton Public School tomorrow in their first round game of the PSSA Knockout. We have been training for several weeks now and are looking forward to a great couple of games. Well done to all those students who participated in the Stages 2 & 3 Cross Country last Friday. In what turned out to be a perfect morning for running, we were able to complete all events and pick a team for the District Cross Country which will be held next week. Congratulations to all the students in the team and to those who participated in the run. Today, the Stage 1 Cross Country is being held and this should be another enjoyable afternoon for our students. Congratulations to Talieka Burns who was selected in the Western Girls’ Touch Football team earlier this week. Talieka and Mackenzie Crook both tried out for this team against 70 other girls from right across the Western area of the state. Both girls played really well, with Talieka being selected. She will now play in the Western team at the State Carnival later this year. This week, Braydon Hyland, Jayden Williams and Blake Sandry are in Parkes as part of the Western Area AFL team. This team is playing in this State Carnival against teams from each area from right across NSW. Good luck boys and we look forward to hear how you went. On Friday, four girls will try out for the Western Girls’ Hockey team. Good luck, Lilly Smith, Mackenzie Crook, Natasha Hagar and Jacinta Blackburne.

P&C News A design of a new sports shirt was presented to the P&C. The design has been advertised widely over the last month and at the May P&C meeting, discussion and decisions will be made whether to adopt this as the sports uniform. If the new design is accepted, it would be phased in over the following 18 months so as children outgrow the old, they can purchase the new. The May P&C meeting will be held in the staffroom on Tuesday 30th May commencing at 7pm in the staffroom. Please note the change of date (due to State of Origin on the Wednesday night.) To vote on the new sports shirt you have to be a financial member of the P&C. Membership is $2 and has to be paid before or at the meeting prior to the voting commencing. NO postal votes will be accepted. If you want to vote, you must be present at the meeting.
