P u b l i c S c h o o l Term 2, Week 5

Wednesday, 31st May 2017 Make a Payment Dear Parents, Welcome to Week 6 of Term 2. The term seems to be racing by very, very quickly. Over the last five days, we have had a few activities take place both inside and outside the classroom. At this of year, it is very common for our lost property box to be overflowing with jumpers that have been worn to school in the morning as it is very cold and then being discarded in the afternoon as it warms up. If your child’s name is on the jumper, it is relatively easy to get it back to its rightful owner. Please ensure that your child’s name is on the jumper and we will do all we can to reunite your child with their jumper.

Sport Congratulations to all of our Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students who ran so beautifully at last week’s Cross Country. The track around our school was a tough one and a long one for little legs but our students from Kindergarten to Year 2 did it beautifully. Well done to all the boys and girls who completed the course. Thank you also to all the mums and dads and other supporters who came along and cheered all the students home. Thankyou also to Mrs Johnson who organised yet another very successful carnival. This Friday, our Stages 2 & 3 also qualified for the District Cross Country and will be competing against runners from all the other schools in the Cowra District to see who qualifies for the Cowra District team to compete at the Western Carnival later this term. Good luck to our 42 runners. Last Thursday, both our girls’ and boys’ hockey teams played in the State PSSA Knockout against Middleton Public School from Parkes. Both our teams played really well and, in two close games, were both defeated. The majority of our players had never played hockey before and really enjoyed the experience. They all trained hard and learnt some really valuable skills. Well done to all players from both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Last Friday, four of our girls’ hockey players travelled to Bathurst to try out for the Western girls’ Hockey team - Mackenzie Crook, Jacinta Blackburne, Natasha Hagar and Lilly Smith. All girls displayed great skills and were to be commended on their efforts. From all the girls from right across the Western Region who tried out , Lilly smith from our school was selected to

be a part of the Western team. The Western team will play in the State Carnival in South West Sydney later this term. Congratulations to all the girls from our school who tried out and in particular, good Luck to Lilly! Good luck to our Rugby League team who will play in the next round of the State PSSA Knockout tomorrow afternoon. This game will be against Cowra P.S. and will be played in Cowra. The game commences at 2pm at River Park. The boys and Mr Ryan have been training hard and are looking forward to a good game.

Operation Art During this week we have 23 students from Years 1-6 taking part in the Operation Art workshops which are being held at Cowra Public School. At these workshops the children will be tutored by specialist Art teachers in various media which could include: sculpture, drawing, painting etc. Stage 1 yesterday, Stage 2 are attending today and Stage 3 will be going tomorrow. The example of work that Stage 1 students did was outstanding and we are looking forward to seeing what our older students can produce.

Eisteddfod Today two of our dance groups competed at the Cowra Eisteddfod. Our Primary Dance Group and our Year 2 Group both performed beautifully and are to be congratulated for all the hard work and effort that they have put in. Congratulations to Mrs Statham, Mrs Apps, Mrs Murray and Ms Barker who prepared our students so thoroughly. The children were great ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to our Year 2 Verse Speaking Choir who won their section at the Cowra Eisteddfod last week. They have been approached by the Eisteddfod committee to perform at the Grand Concert of Prizewinners on Friday, 9th June. This is a wonderful compliment to our students, Mrs Ryan and Mrs Murray. We look forward to them representing our school and bring their talents to a wider audience.

John Smith Principal Head Lice Please remember to check your child’s hair for head lice on a regular basis. Treatment is available from the chemist .

Lost Property

We have a large number of jumpers in lost property, many without names. Please write your child’s name on any clothing their wear to school.

P&C News At last night’s P&C meeting, a discussion and subsequent vote was taken about changing the school sports uniform. The current uniform is a white polo shirt with black shorts for boys and red shorts for girls. The decision was made that the new uniform of a red and a grey polo top (with school logo) and black shorts for both boys and girls will be implemented. This implementation will be phased in over the next 18 months ie as your child outgrows this current sports uniform the new uniform will need to be purchased and worn. We are waiting for a sample to arrive which should be here shortly and then we are hoping that, at the beginning of Term 3, the uniform will then be available for purchase. Closer to the date, prices and stockists will be communicated to all parents. The uniform will look very smart and I am sure will be a great hit with both our students and parents.
