Term 3, Week 7 Wednesday, 1st September 2016

Dear Parents, Welcome to Week 7. This week is the final week before our whole school musical finally hits the stage next week. The 8th September to be precise! Hopefully you have that date locked in as it promises to be a spectacular evening! The children and staff have all been busy rehearsing and it is all coming together really well. You will be astounded by the talent and creativity of the students and staff at your school. Congratulations to the P&C who organised the Trivia Night last weekend. It was an outstanding success with approximately $3, 000 being raised for the students at our school, all of which will come back to the students. Above this though, it was a wonderful community night where everyone came together for fun, laughter and a general good time. (as well as some very thought provoking questions) Thank you and congratulations to Susan Callaghan who did a wonderful job organising the questions, Lee Felton for being a wonderful M.C., Rod Hayes and Melinda Rowston who helped judge the answers, Cath Sutherland for her wonderful table decorations including the literary table-cloths and to anyone else involved with the evening it was a great success. V.I.P Visit Next week, we are very privileged to have two very important visitors at our school. The Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Cosgrove will be visiting students and classes on Monday, 5th September from 10.00am till 10.45am. During this time, Their Excellencies will be visiting two classrooms as well as meeting all our students in the

This is certainly a rare privilege for our students to meet such highly distinguished people and one I’m sure that they will remember for many years to come. In my 38 years of teaching this is the first time in any school that I have worked at that I have been privileged to have a visit from the Governor General. A rare privilege indeed! External Validation During the first part of this term the school and staff have all been involved in a new process developed by NSW Department of Education called External Validation. In this process approximately 20% of schools from right across NSW are chosen each year to work with a panel to look at a document called the School Excellence Framework. In this Framework there have been 14 elements identified that go together to make schools excellent and effective. Schools undergoing this process are asked to pull together evidence that addresses these 14 elements. Our school’s evidence was submitted and then an interview with the panel and the executive of the school took place last Tuesday, 23rd August. I am happy to report that our school were able to address all the elements, identify evidence that supported our findings and spoke at length with the panel about the many wonderful programs that we operate at our school. The panel members went away very impressed in particular with the amount of information we have on the learning of all our students, the effectiveness and range of curriculum and learning opportunities we offer all our students. They also liked the way that teachers in stages and across stages work together to promote learning as well as the professional growth of the teachers and also the planning, both short and long term that goes on to ensure that our students needs are well catered for. It was quite a worthwhile experience to have people outside the school come in, look at all we do in depth and confirm that we are doing a wonderful job for our students. www.mulyan-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au T:63422531 F:63411254 92-94 Lachlan St, Cowra, 2794

Canteen News

Sport Sport continues apace. Many of you have probably already heard of the wonderful feats of our Peachey Shield Rugby League team who last week contested the State Finals in Sydney. On a very wet and soggy day our boys took on all comers from right across NSW and put in a superb effort to eventually walk away as State Runners Up. An absolutely outstanding effort. Congratulations boys.

Trish has a member of her family quite ill, so she is not able to work . Some of our school community members have banded together and are volunteering their time to keep the canteen open for recess and lunch. “Breakfast With Trish” will not operate on Tuesday and Thursday mornings until Trish returns. P&C Committee

Many of the boys from this team travel to Wagga tomorrow to play in the P.S.S.A. State Knockout. Good luck boys! Also last week our boys’ and girls’ touch football teams played their matches against Calare Public School and both our teams played very solid games and walked away winners. They now move into the next round and will play in Cowra next Wednesday, 7th September. Congratulations boys and girls, Mrs Beale and Mrs Statham. Yesterday, our girls’ soccer team travelled to Dubbo to play in the Western Final. Unfortunately they came up against a very strong Dubbo team and lost 2-0. The girls played well, particularly in the second half and are to be congratulated for their mighty effort. A match report will be in next week’s newsletter. On Friday, members of the Cowra District Athletics team travel to Dubbo to take part in the Western zone Carnival We have several athletes competing. Good luck to all the boys and girls participating in this carnival. Results will be

Legends of League

After successfully completing the Cowra Peachey Shield and the Regional Finals day in Dubbo, Mulyan senior league team was invited to participate in the Legends of League; the final of the various regions from across the state. Held on August, 24th at Macquarie University sporting Fields it was a daunting but exciting challenge for the boys. To make it an even greater challenge, the day saw more rainfall than an average month. The Mulyan boys showed their grit and quite easily outclassed and accounted for the other four teams, Lennox Head, Willougby, St Helen’s Park and Frank Partridge Public School in their pool. Progressing to the quarterfinals, Mulyan proved far superior in the conditions to Christian Brothers of Lewisham. In the semi-final against Gerringong the boys were really stretched but were awarded a win on count back, when the final scores were looked at six all. In a tough, rain soaked final against St Josephs of Taree the Mulyan altered to a bigger, mobile team, but they gave their all. The Mulyan boys can be extremely proud of their efforts. Second in the state is a huge achievement. This was acknowledged by their large contingent of supporters who were vocal and encouraging in very trying conditions. A huge thankyou is extended to Craig Negus and Dean Murray for their astute coaching.
