Term 3, Week 1 Wednesday, 20th July 2016

Dear Parents Welcome back to Term 3 2016! We hope that everyone had a wonderful relaxing holiday and are now ready for a very busy Term ahead. Right from the beginning, we have a busy calendar ahead of us with lots of extracurricular activities planned right up until the last week of this term. I have included a calendar with the events that we already know about pencilled in but I am sure that other events will also pop up and we will let you know about them as soon as we have confirmed dates. Remember that if you ever have any questions, queries, complaints or concerns, please contact us here at school and we will do our best to answer them. Sport News On the last Wednesday of last term, our Peachey Shield and Richardson Cup team travelled to Dubbo to take part in the regional finals against all other successful school teams from right across the Western Area. Both teams performed well with the Richardson Shield (Juniors) winning one game and only just losing their other game. Meanwhile, the Peachey Shield (seniors) team were undefeated on the day and ended up winning the shield . They will now go on to the “legends” day to be held in Sydney on 24th August. Congratulations to these boys along with the managers, Mr Ryan and Mrs Beale and the coaches, Craig Negus and Dean Murray (seniors) and Phillip Ingram (juniors). A more detailed report appears later in this newsletter. Some coming sporting events in the next couple of weeks include (hopefully) the boys’ and girls’ touch football knockout games tomorrow. Good luck to these teams. On Friday, our Primary Athletics Carnival is scheduled, and weather permitting, will go ahead. A decision will be made on Thursday and notification sent out if it is postponed. The alternate date is Wednesday, 27th July. Also on Friday, 3 of our boys will be travelling to Western Sydney as part of the Western Cross Country team to compete in the State Carnival. Good luck to Leroy Murray, Jacob Haeata and Bailey Callaghan. I know

they will be great ambassadors for our school. Also, in the next couple of weeks, we have the girls hockey team to play in the Western Finals of their knockout and the boys’ rugby league team to play in the next round of their knockouts. As soon as we have date and venues, we will notify the players and their families. Tree Planting During the holidays, 6 students from our school were nominated by staff and the council to have a tree planted as part of the ongoing commitment that Cowra has with visiting Japanese schools and visitors. The students were linked with a student from a Japanese school and a plaque was laid as well as a tree planted to further enhance this relationship. These trees and plaques are now part of the grove of trees along Cherry Tree Avenue and will remain there for many years to come. The students selected were Tom Negus, Kolara Kennewell, Summer Williams, Bailey Beale, Braydan Densmore and Indigo Thornett. Congratulations on this great honour.

Peachey/Richardson Finals Day On Wednesday, 29th June, Mulyan’s junior and senior footballers ventured to Dubbo for the finals at the Richardson Cup and the Peachey Shield. A fine effort for our school alone. In the junior section, the Richardson Cup, our team, mostly comprising small Year three boys, played tenaciously and were very competitively all day. The experience gained will be great for the future. A big thank you is extended to Mr Ingram for his coaching efforts on the day. In the senior division, the Peachey Shield, our team was relentless and displayed great skills and a fighting attitude to overcome some very good teams. Going through undefeated, they played Holy Family of Kelso in the final. After a close but comfortable win, our boys were crowned 2016 champions, a first for Mulyan. After the final, Dylan Gallagher was awarded Player of the Match and Jacob Haeata was awarded Player of the Day, both wonderful achievements. Mulyan’s team now progresses to the Legends of League Finals Day in Sydney on 24th August, where they will compete with the best in the state. Good luck and well done, boys. A big thank you and job well done to coaches, Craig Negus and Dean Murray. Rugby League News This year, Mulyan had seven boys represent our school and district as part of the Western Region teams. Dylan Gallagher played at the State carnival in the Under 11 Division where he played creditably. Tom Negus, Leroy Murray, Jacob Haeata, Ryan Carroll, Isaac Petty and Charlie Jeffries represented in the Open Primary Division. The sheer number from our school suggests the strength we currently enjoy and the strength of our teams. All boys performed wonderfully and have learnt a great deal from their experience. Subsequent to the State Carnival, Leroy Murray was selected to be a member of an elite squad of thirty four players now being groomed for the final State Team for the National Carnival. What a wonderful achievement! Leroy is currently at a camp, as he has been regularly since the State carnival, so as to hone skills and vie for a position in the final State Squad. We are very proud of Leroy’s achievement, his dedication and determination, and we wish him well.
