Term 3, Week 10 Wednesday, 21st September 2016
Dear Parents, We are now at the end of what has been a busy and eventful Term. Yesterday was a perfect example of what a busy, fun exciting time we’ve been having. Stage 1 had a visitor to their classrooms from the ‘Healthy Ears’ program. Using puppets they were shown the correct way and most hygienic way to blow their nose and cough, hopefully assisting with the prevention of sharing colds. Stage 3 had a fun day playing cricket against other local schools, being involved with the Milo T20 cricket. Our school leaders took part in the World Peace Day Youth Forum hosted by Cowra Youth Council. They participated in some thought provoking activities aimed at inspiring young people to become ambassadors for peace within their communities. We were then all entertained by an awesome band from Manly Selective High who had us all up groovin’ to their beautiful music. We also had experienced success on the Football, Soccer, Netball and Hockey field. We have had students chosen for Regional representative sporting teams and Leroy Murray making it to the NSW team to play and win at National Level. We have both Cross Country and Athletics representatives from our school succeeding at representative level. Students have successfully represented our school at The Spelling Bee, in Debating teams and Koori Dance Group. We recently held our very successful School Concert which was a massive effort on the behalf of all our students and staff and certainly worth it. It was an amazing, memorable night and an experience I’m sure the students will keep for ever. We had a successful and popular display at Cowra Show and on the weekend were part of Back2Cowra with a display of memorabilia in our VTS which was enjoyed by many former students. We have been very busy in the classrooms. Our students have been engaged in fun and challenging lessons and are always busy learning and producing quality work. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Vogel (4R) Mrs Murphy (Kinder Blue) and Mrs Dernee and Ms Mitchell (Library) who have been teaching at our school for the past few weeks while class teachers have been on leave. We are very grateful to our casual teachers who capably teach our students so they can continue the quality programs in our classrooms. www.mulyan-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au T:63422531 F:63411254 92-94 Lachlan St, Cowra, 2794
Tomorrow our Stage 1 students are off to Canberra Zoo. I’m sure they will have a wonderful time and will be excellent ambassadors for Mulyan Public School. A number of students have been absent and returned without explanation. It is a legal requirement that the school is notified of a reason for student absences. Please remember to either send a note with your child when they return to school or ring the office and explain why your child is away. I hope everyone takes advantage of this upcoming holiday to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Please stay safe, enjoy the break with your families and we look forward to seeing our students recharged and ready for the final term of 2016 on Monday 10th October in full summer uniform. PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE REGIONAL FINAL On Tuesday, September 13, four Mulyan students competed in the regional final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee at Calare Public School in Orange. Indigo Thornett and Coopa McNamee represented our school in the junior section for Years 3 and 4. Both students spelt strongly. It is very difficult and nerveracking to stand in front of a large crowd of people and spell orally. I was so pleased with the preparation and effort displayed by both students. Congratulations to both Indigo and Coopa on performing well in their first regional spelling final. Joel Diamond-Squires and Tom Negus were our entrants in the senior section for Years 5 and 6. Both boys have been finalists in previous years – Joel in 2014 while Tom was regional champion in both 2014 and 2015. After seven rounds, there were only four students left from forty four entrants. Both our Mulyan boys were still in the competition. Tom is now the regional runner-up and will compete at the state final in Sydney if the winner is not available. Both boys put up a fine effort in “staying alive” for so long in the regional competition. This was due to their thorough preparation of the seen wordlist of over 1100 words. Well done, Tom and Joel. Congratulations to all our spellers. You did Mulyan proud. Thank you also to their friends who willingly gave up lunchtimes to help our spellers train for the finals.
