From the Principal’s Desk Kindergarten Transition Program

On Wednesday morning we welcomed our very excited Kindergarten Transition Class to HPS. The students had a wonderful time meeting each other, engaging in some classroom activities and having a special tour of the school. It was a pleasure to meet our 2019 Kindergarten students and their parents. We look forward to their visit again next Wednesday.

Education Week – “Today’s Schools – Creating Tomorrow’s World” This year Education Week will be held during Week 3, from Monday 6th of August to Friday 10th of August. The theme for Education Week this year is “Today’s Schools – Creating Tomorrow’s World”. As part of

our Education Week celebrations we will be holding an open classroom on Wednesday 8th of August from 12:30pm until 1:00pm. Following the open classroom visits there will be a sausage sizzle available to students and families, from 1:00pm and concluding at 1:45pm, at a small cost of $2.00 each. Attached to this Newsletter please find an order form. Order forms with payment must be completed and sent in to school by Monday 6th of August. We look forward to welcoming families to our open classroom as part of our Education Week celebrations.

District Athletics Carnival The 2018 Cowra District PSSA Athletics Carnival will be held at Twigg Oval Cowra on Friday 10th of August commencing at 9:15am. A Permission Note, to all students who have been selected for this Carnival detailing the events they have been selected in, was sent home with last week’s newsletter. If you have not returned your signed permission note please do so asap. Parents are required to transport their child to and from the Carnival. Ms Mem Brougham from Rye Park Public School will be the supervising teacher on the day. When students arrive at the Carnival they are to look for the Rye Park Banner where Ms Brougham will meet them. Congratulations and good luck to the following students: Jack Lawler, Suzy Connors, Samuel Lawler, Chelsea Leister, Micah Murphy, Eloise Newell, Mia O’Malveney, Lucas Sandry, Liam Beaumont, Rachel Silver, Logan Mitchell, Hayley Cameron, Montanah O’Malveney and Bison Zounis.

Book Week This year we will be celebrating Book Week during Week 5. The theme for this year’s Book Week is “Find Your Treasure”.

HPS will be holding a Book Fair Parade on Friday 24th of August. All students are invited to come dressed as a character related to the theme of “Find your Treasure” to celebrate Book Week. Families are invited to come along and view the Book Fair Parade at 1:30pm. We look forward to seeing you all there!

High School Transition for Year 6 Students High School Transition for Year 6 students going into Year 7 next year commences tomorrow 2nd of August. Students will attend Cowra High School from 2:15pm until 3:15pm on Thursday 2nd of August, Thursday 16th


August, Thursday 30th August, Thursday 13th September, Thursday 27th September and Thursday 25th October. Students will be transported to Cowra High School via teacher’s car. At the end of each Transition students will be catching their buses home from Cowra High School or be picked up from the High School by parents. Students will be required to wear enclosed leather shoes (this is for Health & Safety reasons and for their own safety in practical classrooms) as the lessons will be Food Technology and Ag/Science.

Canowindra High School Yr 6 to Yr 7 Transition Program Attached to this Newsletter please find Transition days and times for Yr 6 students attending Canowindra High School in 2019. Please note that there will be a parent meeting at Canowindra High School on Monday 13th of August commencing at 10.00am.

Life Education Our visit from the Life Education Van will be on Monday 27th of August 2018. Harold the Giraffe is always popular with students of all ages. The cost for each child to visit the Van is $10.00. This includes a workbook which the students get to keep. A permission note and an order form were sent home with last week’s newsletter. Please complete the permission and return to school with payment ASAP.

PCYC Gymnastics Lessons As has been the case for the past few years, we will again be attending the Cowra PCYC for our annual Gymnastics Program later this term! The lessons will be held each Wednesday for 5 consecutive weeks commencing on Wednesday 29th of August and continuing through to Wednesday 26th of September 2018. A permission note detailing cost and PCYC Membership Fees will be sent home with next week’s newsletter.

Sporting Schools Lawn Bowls Once again this term we have been fortunate to receive a Sporting Schools Grant to provide the opportunity for students to learn a new sport. This term our students will be learning how to lawn bowl. Lessons will be held each Thursday and will commence in Week 6.

HPS Annual Pie Drive On Monday a note and order form were sent home with your child re our Annual Pie Drive. All funds raised from this Pie Drive will go towards purchasing valuable resources for our students. Orders must be back at

Whole School Excursion A friendly reminder that families are welcome to make payments for our Whole School Excursion to be held 28th, 29th and 30th of November, if you wish to make a


payment please call into the school office and Anthea will assist you. This year our school will be travelling to the Blue Mountains, this is an excursion which will be part of our Geography and PD curriculum. If you have not yet paid your $50.00 deposit and wish to attend please call in to the office and make your payment asap. Remember that this is a WHOLE SCHOOL excursion and all students are expected to attend. If you have any questions do not hesitate to make an appointment with a staff member and they will be more than happy to assist you.

P&C Meal Deal Attached to this Newsletter please find an order form for this Friday’s (tomorrow) Meal Deal. The meal deal is a pie with your choice of Tomato or BBQ Sauce and a homemade carrot cupcake all for $5.00. Please complete the order form – 1 for each child and return to school with payment by Friday morning.

P&C Meeting

Parents & Caregivers are invited to a P&C Meeting to be held tonight at the Cowra Services Club commencing at 7pm. The P&C Committee welcome new members and look forward to seeing you there.

Cowra Early Childhood Services Mobile Preschool Attached to last week’s newsletter was an information flyer re the Mobile Preschool which will be located at Holmwood Public School. The preschool which will be commencing this term will be offering early childhood education and care services at a minimal cost for children to learn as they discover, create and imagine. An information booklet and Enrolment Form have been made available to the school office for the convenience of families. If any families are interested in learning more, or know of any families who would be interested, please call into the school office and collect the relevant information asap.
