Term 3, Week 5 Wednesday, 17th August 2016
Dear Parents, Welcome to Week 5 the halfway point of the term. We have had a very busy first half of the term so far with lots of great things happening. Work in classrooms has been exceptional, with the standard of work always amazing me. It is lovely to have students bring work up to show me, to read me their stories and to generally just be very proud of what they have done. Similarly, on the sports field, in the playground and everywhere else we have boys and girls doing lots and lots of wonderful things. At this time of the term all classes are busy preparing for the school musical. From what I have seen so far this year’s musical should once again be an extravagance of sight, sound and movement. Please remember to keep the night of the 8th September free and let your family and friends know to come along and be thoroughly entertained. Sport Last Thursday, the girls’ hockey team played in the final of the Western Zone against Bathurst Small Schools. It was an epic match with both teams showing amazing amounts of skills, endurance and stamina. At the end of regulation full time, both teams were locked at nil all. There were several opportunities for both teams to score but neither team was able to put the ball into the goal. This meant that the teams went to 9 players each for 7 minutes each half of overtime. At the end of this time, the score was still nil all. Two more players dropped off for 7 aside for another 7 minutes of overtime. Again nil all. We then went into 5 minute halves. During the second period of this overtime we were attacking strongly and were able to put the ball

into the back of the net for a monumental win! This now means that the girls’ hockey team will go to the State finals to be played at the Macarthur Hockey Complex at Narellan on Tuesday, 13th September. All in all, the game lasted for over 1 hour and 40 minutes! Congratulations to all the girls and thank you to the students, parents and community members who came along and supported the team. The girls’ hockey team players are: Kara Hinderager, Sarah Richardson, Rory Boland, Mikaela Core, Jade Blinman, Mackenzie Crook, Nikita Curtain, Lucy Murray, Amber Smith, Makenzie Felton, Chloee Funnell, Kate Stammers and Lilly Smith. Also next Wednesday, the boys’ Rugby League team will play the Peachey Shield Legends Day against the winning school from regions across N.S.W. Good luck boys and Mr Ryan. NAPLAN The Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN results should arrive at school very soon. As soon as they arrive, we will be sending them home. Please keep an eye on our Facebook, School App or Website when we will be notifying parents that the NAPLAN reports are in your child’s bag. Staff Car Park A reminder to parents and carers that the staff car parks in Lachlan Street and Myall Street should not be used to drop off or pick up children. These areas can be very busy and children, particularly young ones are not always aware of car movements in and around these areas. It would be terrible for an accident to happen in these areas. As part of Planet Ark’s Schools Tree Day 3/4C planted a number of native trees in our “walkie talkie” area last week. This is all part of an ongoing beautification program at our school. It makes our students more aware of their natural environment and interested in caring for and respecting their environment.
