P u b l i c S c h o o l Term 3, Week 6

Wednesday, 23rd August 2017 Dear Parents, Welcome to week 6. Last week was a particularly busy week with lots of activities and events taking place both inside and outside the classroom. We were all extremely busy and doing lots of great things. Sport Congratulations to our girls soccer team who had a great win against Wallerawang Public School last Thursday. This now puts the girls team into the Western Final against Middleton Public School from Parkes. This game will take place next Tuesday. Well done girls and good luck in the final. Congratulations to our coaches Mr Deehan Crook and Mrs Johnson. While on the subject of soccer Mackenzie Crook and Talieka Burns are away with the Western Girls Soccer team competing at the State Carnival in Sydney. We look forward to hearing how they went. Last week, Bailey Callaghan was up in Inverall with the Western Boys Soccer team competing in the State Carnival against all of the other regions. Talking to Bailey on Monday he told me that they had good carnival with a win against Barrier Region, a draw against North Western region and a close and exciting game against each of the other regions. Well done Bailey. Today our Peachey Cup Rugby League team is playing in the Legends Day down in Sydney against all the other region winners of the Peachey Cup finals from across NSW. Good luck to our team, I know you have been training hard. Thankyou also to the parents and supporters who accompanied our team to Sydney. We look forward to hearing how you go. Debating On Monday of this week our debaters had a debate against Nashdale Public School from Orange. In a very close debate and one that was well argued from both sides, Nashdale got the verdict. Well done to both teams on a wonderful debate. Congratulations to our team who are really debating well at the moment.

Science Week Last Wednesday, to help celebrate Science Week, we had Science Day for all of our students. Student were able to take part in 6 experiments ranging from bridge building to protecting eggs! We were assisted by students from Cowra High School and the students from both schools had a fantastic time. It was very enjoyable and very educational. Thankyou to Mrs Jeffries who organised the day and to all the ’mad scientists’ who took part so enthusiastically. Staffing At the beginning of next term I will be taking leave for the remainder of the 2017 school year. This leave will lead into my retirement in 2018. The position of relieving Principal for the remainder of 2017 will be advertised as an Expression of Interest later this term and then a full time permanent Principal will be appointed in Term 4 this year. I have spent 12 wonderful years as part of the Mulyan School Community and I will miss the school, the students, staff and community, however I feel it is time to move on and pursue some other interests. SRC Footy Fan Day This Friday, the SRC are running a footy fan day for all of our students K-6. Students can dress up in their favourite football teams colours/guernsey etc. We look forward to seeing a variety of teams for a variety of sports. Money raised from this day will go to the SRC to purchase equipment for the students. Go the Rabbitohs!!!!! Father’s Day BBQ & Old Time Sport Next Wednesday, 30th August the infants are having a Father’s Day BBQ for all the Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, etc. This will be followed by an ‘old-fashioned’ games day (should suit me!). We hope we have lots of Dads here on the day. Further details will be sent home soon.

NAPLAN Naplan results for all students in Years 3 & 5 who sat for their assessment earlier this year were sent home with students on Monday. Overall, we were quite pleased with the results of our students and in particular the growth of students from Year 3 to Year 5. Please remember this is one assessment on one day and a more comprehensive report on your child's progress is captured by their teacher over the whole school year. If you would like to discuss your child’s report please contact the school to make an appointment to see your child's teacher.
