Term 4, Week 5 Wednesday, 9th November 2016
Dear Parents, Welcome to Week 5, the halfway point of the term. It is lovely to be back after a bit of a break. Thank you and congratulations to Mrs Cummings who did such a wonderful job as Relieving Principal in my absence. It was great to come back to work on Monday and see that everything was running smoothly. The classes are all buzzing along nicely and a great many things have taken place over the last 4 weeks. Thank you also to Mrs Beale who stepped up as Relieving Assistant Principal for Stage 2 during this time and she also did a wonderful job. It is wonderful to know that we have such capable people at the school who can step up and take on these positions so efficiently as well. Congratulations to all the Stage 3 students who attended the Excursion to Sydney last week. Mrs Statham and the teachers have not stopped talking about it and praising the children for their behaviour, attitude and enthusiasm. I am sure that you have seen some of the pictures on our school Facebook page. An undoubtable highlight was the visit to Admiralty House (the official Sydney Residence of the Governor General of Australia). This was the first and only visit so far by any school group in Australia! On this visit they were rewarded with a tour of the home, a morning tea and a visit from the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Cosgrove. Thank you to all the teachers who accompanied the 85 students on this visit and made it such a special occasion. A particular thank you to Mrs Statham who spent a great deal of time organising and preparing this excursion. This is a special event I am sure our students will remember for many, many years to come.
Sport
Good luck to our five Stage 2 students who travelled to Sydney Olympic Park to take part in the Hotshots State Tennis Carnival. This is the first time that we have entered this carnival and we are looking forward to seeing how the team goes. Good luck to Laina Kennewell. Talieka Burns, Ricky Holmes, Clancy Holmes and Shakaila Reid who will be representing our school. Thank you Mrs Johnson for giving these students this opportunity to participate in this event.

Respect-Ed
Tomorrow our students from Years 3-6 will be attending a unique event at Cowra High School. Respect-Ed is an opportunity to showcase and encourage the education and learnings that students in our school are doing about respectful attitudes and healthy relationships. This event is being held prior to White Ribbon Day. Students from our school will be presenting an item along with students from other local schools. This day fits in with work that students are already doing in their PDHPE Curriculum area. It is that Respect-Ed will show how Cowra students are playing a powerful part in changing community attitudes that contribute to relationship violence.

Bikie and Scooter Day
Tomorrow the students from Kindergarten to Year 2 will be taking part in a Bikie and Scooter Safety Day program. This program will involve talks on road safety, bike and scooter inspections, safe riding messages and a whole lot of fun. Please ensure that your child has a bike or scooter to use on this day as it is a valuable part of our curriculum and an event the students really enjoy each year.
Intensive Swimming
Next week the Intensive Swimming starts for students in Years 2-6 who are struggling or non-swimmers. This program is a great way for children to gain water confidence and skills in a supervised and controlled environment. If you feel your child needs to attend this program, please ensure that they are enrolled. Thank you to Mrs Cummings and Mrs Murray for organising this valuable program. John Smith Principal
