Term 4, Week 7 Wednesday, 23rd November 2016

Dear Parents, What an exciting week for 28 of our students and several staff members. Yesterday, these students and their teachers travelled to Sydney to take part in the final rehearsal and then 4 performances of this year’s Schools Spectacular. Over the next 3 days, the students and their teachers will be working hard as part of a much, much bigger choir and dance troupe made up of students from right across NSW. Our students will have the opportunity to learn lots of wonderful new skills associated with being a performer on a big stage as well as meeting and making new friends from all over our great state. The theme of this years School’s Spectacular is “Dream Big” and one that we aspire to each and every day. The performance of this year’s Schools Spectacular will also give our student the chance to dream big as they perform at a new venue at Sydney Olympic Park—Qudos Bank Arena. I am really looking forward to seeing their performance. Thank you also to the teachers who are giving up a week away from their families to ensure out students are given the opportunity to take part in this wonderful event Mrs Statham, Mrs Cummings, Mrs Baratto and Mrs Apps who are accompanying our students and Mrs Murray who is with the Cowra High School Dance group. I know that the students and their families really appreciate this commitment.

Remembrance Ceremony

School Leaders Speeches

On Monday, 28th November, the Year 5 students who have been nominated by their peers will give their election speeches to the primary school students and staff. After the speeches, the students and staff will return to their rooms and cast their votes for who they think will make a good leader for our school in 2017. The votes will be collected and will be tallied. The three boys and three girls with the most votes will be notified that they are the school - leaders elect for 2017. The actual positions of Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefects, however, will not be announced till Presentation Day. The notification of leaders will be done as soon as practicable after the elections take place. Good luck to the following students who will be delivering speeches on Monday morning: Bailey Beale, Rohan Wilson, Kayne Veney, Bailey Callaghan, Bradley Bond and Nicholas Henry, Zoe Browne, Mackenzie Crook, Jessica Hayes, Summer Williams and Haylee Annetts. Speeches will commence at approx. 9.45am in the VTS and all parents, friends and interested people are invited to attend.

New Play Equipment

All of the infants children have been busily watching the construction of the new playground equipment in the bottom end of the school. It is finished and ready to play on!! Thank you to the P&C who have fully funded the construction of this equipment. It will be a wonderful addition to our school’s facilities. In particular, a huge thank you to Gus Rowston who has overseen the project from the initial quoting to the final steps. It has been a magnificent effort and is certainly well worth it. Thank you also to Gus, Justin Smith and Lou Beale who put the final touches to it last Friday when the soft fall was delivered and spread, a very hot task. The children and staff really appreciate everything that has been done

MS Read-a-thon

Recently the MS Read-a-thon was held right around Australia. This Read-a-thon has been going for many years and helps raise funds for research into MS with hopefully, one day, finding a cure. We were very proud to see that two of our students were listed in the top 100 fundraisers from right across Australia. Congratulations Zare and Fraser Ellice who have done a wonderful job supporting this cause. Super effort!!
